^ You can disable the anti-skate, set to zero or remove the weight...It is such a minute amount of force probably nothing will happen long term. Anti skate works in conjunction with tracking force.
For sure if you have a high end cartridge not a good idea to play the label grooves. ![]() ![]() Edited by Catcher10 - May 10 2014 at 13:13 |

Thanks for the information. I guess I will have to find a used one of the original, I don't like the drums on the re-recording. By the way, one thing I never understood: can 180 gram vinyls be played on any turn table? |

Yes 180g and 200g can be played on any TT. The only concern people talk about is VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) but it is such a minimal change in height, I have never heard any difference. Most of what I have in constant rotation is 180g, so I make all my tonearm/cartridge adjustments to that thickness. Have fun! |

Have to share this. One of the best 45s in my collection.

^ Nice...most of my 45s are my parents collection. I keep them in 45 albums, a few are worth $5-$15 ea.
But I will never sell them.... |

I'm generally not into 45s, most of mine are from my Grammy, including that one. She gave me my first record player in fact. Still, I like a nice, high quality picture sleeve, and sometimes they're the only way to get a kick ass song.

Not vinyl...but still analog. The resurgence continues.....New issued RTR tapes are very expensive since these are essentially made to order. For example The Tape Project (Google it), sold out of the collections they reissued at about $500 a set.
I have heard these tapes at a local show once on a Studer deck and it was insane at the detail and SQ...Only a super high end digital system rivals the sound IMO. I would be happy just to see BASF or Maxell/TDK issue new production tape. http://www.analogplanet.com/content/famous-swiss-tape-recorder-brand-re-introduce-reel-reel-analog-recorder Edited by Catcher10 - May 17 2014 at 20:05 |

I've always been interested in getting a reel to reel player. They seem to be one of, if not the highest quality record mediums of it's time. But the relatively low number of albums made for it makes me think that if I ever do get one, it'll be when I can actually afford to spend that kind of money more frequently.

There are no new albums on RTR tape that you and I would listen to, issued anymore.
I have a few The Who, Boston on RTR. The idea for RTR is for archiving your vinyl, play the tape rather than the vinyl to save it. And they truly are a machine of eye candy, watching the big reels spin and VU meters dance with the music is very cool. Any deck you find is gonna be 25+yrs old and in need of servicing, so its not a cheap hobby. I have a Teac X2000-R, one of the last best consumer decks made and it is in pristine condition....I have been offered $1500 for it, but will never sell it. I have tremendous amounts of patience so RTR works for me....and the sound reproduction is pretty sweet. |

I archive my vinyls on digital, so that aspect of it is pretty much covered for me (tho I still do listen to the actual vinyl when I can, the digital's mainly to play it on my ipod)

Still pretty awesome though. Everything and anything sounds better through an Analog signal. Be pretty cool to reel original analog master tapes. I'm all for it if I could afford it. ![]() |

^ For that kind of hardware. Yeah. Absolutely.
Anyway, spinning MARBLES with the warmth of analog by MARILLION in your honor, Jośe. Thanks for all your kindness and advice as I've been researching around to upgrade my DAC. Long live the signal of pure warmth and love....Analogue. ;) |

Ah man. The clarity in Horgarths voice and the pristine timbers of each instrument so clearly separated and defined. That Marbles is a great recording. ![]() Also. I'm think I'm pretty set on the ARCAM (R-DAC) It's perfect and I can still utilize my quality gear without having to completely overall my entire system. Once I get it, it'll be pure hi-res ANALOG city in those CANS of mine. I can utilize it outwardly as well with my speaker system but only through 2 channels though. 2 channel still can be absolutely wonderful, but I do prefer 5. I love that rear channel hit with sound. ;) Anyway. Tonight's spin. MARILLION's FUGAZI in 24/48k. Not bad with my current DAC, but could be better. ;) |
