For some reason I've been listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin lately (something I haven't done since like high school), and I reached the conclusion that, although most of their best and most mature material comes later in their career, and although Physical Graffiti will always be my favourite, Led Zep 1 is a fricken perfect album

I had a dream last night that Cloud Nothings came into my bedroom and gave me a sandwich. We hung out and I was trying to be cool and all, but I kept feeling super drowsy and it was all I could do to stay awake.

I've never really gotten LZ1. Like, I like it, it's pretty solid, but I don't think it compares to their next five.

For 1969, and a debut album, it was exactly the right thing to set the tempo for their entire career

It really was.. Jeff Beck (Page's friend) was quite upset apparently, as he knew it blew his album right out of the water. Page even took Beck's cover of You Shook Me and one-upped him on it.

All bets were on Led Zeppelin becoming, at best, another Vanilla Fudge. The debut LZ album, and especially the 2nd album, made it totally clear that they were headed to another level.

Yeah, it's definitely a very good album; if I was there when it came out it probably would've blown my mind, but from my point of view I'm not sure it could have the same effect. But then again maybe it just comes down to personal taste.
