Anyway these days it's hard to see any band as prog in terms of the 70' meaning of progressive music which entitled experimentation, all has been done thus we only have variations of that but not really in terms of the scope of progressive. In a way to me, prog I'd classify as clever moozik, with great musicianship as first, complex music with many layers consisting of a band not just a frontman vocalist, and foremost importance thereafter above average vocals. :) Bowie is unique and his vocals are a one of to date :) hugs to you all

No. David Bowie is a musician, singer and songwriter. Prog is a music genre.
I think he's done a few proggy things, but overall no, he's not a prog artist. Love his music, but music doesn't have to be prog to be great. |

I'd say yes - and the same for Bowie, too.

David Bowie is a chameleon, glam rock some not albums yes, others were ok that's it, however Space Oddity released in 1969 at the same time as in the court of the crimson king is prog to me unless I have no clue what entitles the prog meaning? Also is he is only artist to me to date that managed to sing Jacques Brel songs i.e. My Death and In the Port of Amsterdam, also sang a few Beatles songs and also sang Queen plus pink floyd and made it his own, he owned it! Also America original Paul Simon song he kills it. David Bowie is unique experimental, he to me is progressive, no one sounds like him nor can be compared to him really. xxxxxx :)

in glimps : Yes
in general : No
As allmost every other artists born from the 70's scene, they was inspired by prog because at the time prog was huge. If you would ask Bowie "do you consider yourself as part of the progressive rock movement", im sure he would laugh himself to death.
He fits perfect in prog related.
