Tanned Leather were formed after the break up of another band from Cologne/Germany called The Singing End: http://www.forcedexposure.com/artists/singing.end.the.html: Album: 'Listen To the Music!' "Originally released in the beginning of 1971 this extremely rare and terrific album is now available for the first time on CD. The six lads from Cologne/Germany played a fine sort of pop music with psychedelic freak-beat influences similar to the groups on the Great British Psychedelic Trip, Vol. 1-3 Compilations. Gentle melodies, excellent harmony vocals and rich instrumentation (including fuzz-guitar, flute, organ and occasionally orchestrations) show the musicians great talent and remind to the wonderful late sixties. After The Singing End called it a day, a few members founded Tanned Leather and recorded two albums and a few 7" on the famous Harvest Label. In the late seventies bandleader and composer Rainer Pietsch did arrangements for Queen and ELO. The CD contains the first non-LP 7" as bonus tracks and comes with comprehensive booklet. A very interesting album with sounds from the pre-Krautrock era drifting partly into it." Tanned Leather are also mentioned in 'The Crack In The Cosmic Egg' publication: http://home.btconnect.com/ultimathule/krautrockers.html:
Rainer Pietsch (basses, organ, harmonica, piano, vibes, vocals), Alf Gardner (vocals, tambourine), Andy Marx (guitars, banjo, vocals), Herbert Ihle (vocals, percussion, organ), Dicky Mudde (guitars, tambourine, vocals), Jim Cannon (drums, percussion, vocals) CHILD OF NEVER ENDING LOVE SADDLE SOAP More info (much more!) about The Singing End here: http://www.longhairmusic.de/singingendlttmenglisch.htm, which includes this info about how the band morphed into Tanned Leather: "...In the ensuing period EMI finally became aware of the band and contracted them for several record productions under the new band name Tanned Leather. Tanned Leather recorded several singles and two LPs (1972 and 1976) on EMI’s Harvest-Label (!). From the original line-up of The End Rainer Pietsch, Herbert Ihle and Alf Gardener alias Wolfgang Emperhoff remained. Rainer Pietsch was drawn in by Munich and its studio scene, and became involved as arranger in many important international productions, such as Vangelis, ELO and Queen. In addition he had been contracted by the Ralph Siegel production company. Band leader Rainer Pietsch, who had been credited with musical genius from many sides, was eventually disappointed at the musical success that was denied him, and particularly that he hadn’t been able to successfully market his own musical ideas. Apart from his musical skills he was a divinely gifted pool player. He died of a heart attack in 1998. This CD is dedicated to him. Herbert Ihle is working as a studio and tour singer. Bömmel Lückerath is vocalist and guitarist with the Black Fööss. Alf Gardener alias Wolfgang Emperhoff lives in Munich and works for Ralph Siegel. He has refined countless Siegel productions as a background vocalist." Even MORE info about The Singing End here: http://badcatrecords.com/BadCat/SINGINGends.htm, which includes photos which might do as band pic since the band went on to become tanned Leather: Example photo: http://badcatrecords.com/BadCat/SINGINGendphoto2.jpg ![]() "Band members Gardener (aka Wolfgang Emperhoff), Ihle, and Pietsch continued their musical collaboration as Tanned Leather who released a handful of singles and a pair of mid-1970s LPs on the EMI/Harvest label. Pitesch remained active in music as an arranger, working with the likes of Electric Light Orchestra, Queen, and Vangelis. Unfortunately he suffered a fatal heart attack in 1998. Gardener/Emperhoff also remains active in the business working as a backup singer." There is also an entry for Tanned Leather in the "Cosmic Dreams At Play" publication. Taken from: http://www.krautrock-musikzirkus.de/de,Tanned-Leather_487,N.html: "This was a music project based in Munich and led by RAINER PIETSCH. “Child Of Never Ending Love” (1972) was an ambitious adult oriented soft-rock album that came in a fold-out cover with a cute drawing of angelic small children - as good as the artwork used on the British Harvest label! TANNED LEATHER indeed comprised three Germans and three Englishmen. The album is of average quality and not exactly progressive rock! Their second album “Saddle Soap” (1976) is even less exciting, I'm afraid. It contained country-flavoured rock with few interesting moments. The group was now reduced to a vocal quartet. The list of renowned studio musicians participating on it was almost endless. Here are some of them: PAUL VINCENT (guitar), KEITH FORSEY (drums), THOR BALDURSSON (keyboards), ANDY MARX (guitar), KLAUS WEISS (percussion), DAVE KING (bass), KARL ALLAUT (guitar) and STEFAN WISSNET (bass). On most tracks brass, strings and a symphony orchestra was added too." [Dag Erik Asbjørnsen, Cosmic Dreams At Play, 1996] Edit: There are some singles included on the above Green-Brain/Krautrock-Muzikzirkus link which probably need adding to the artist's page. ![]() Edited by yam yam - March 16 2014 at 15:18 |

Thonk had a website at http://www.thonk.ch/home.html. I found it on the Wayback Machine and grabbed some info from there:
Members: Marc Grassi (Piano Keys) - Now with the band RAK - studies piano at JAZZSCOOL basle, switzerland. for years, he has regularly been seen on stage with the bands SELDOM and DOUBLE HEART. while his playing influenced by musicians like EDDIE JOBSON, JON LORD and HERBIE HANCOCK. Flavio Mezzodi (Drums, percussion) is a student at the D'AGOSTINI school in olten, switzerland. he brings experience in studio and live playing into the band, experience he gained in rock and jazz and his previous bands CRITICAL and TRAVEL MIND. he is inspired by drummers like TERRY BOZZIO, DAVE WECKL, SIMON PHILLIPS. Theo Gamper (bass, guitars) likes almost all kinds of music. he hasn't been the same ever since the day he fell in love with the music of FRANK ZAPPA. sometimes he tries to play FRANK'S stuff and finds himself learning a lot about his own limits. Fortunately enough, he understands far more about the music of THØNK than he does when MARC and FLAVIO are talking in ITALIAN... Zoz (Dave Thwaites - now also with RAK) (vocals) singer, writer, artist... englishman ZOZ has a vision for prog in Switzerland. Projects have included prog-pop bands Soul Spin and Sonic Smile and the ultralush symph-ambient groove entity THE LOVE FREQUENCY. Raised on early Genesis, Yes & Kate Bush - currently influenced by U2, Radiohead, Super Furry Animals & The Waterboys ZOZ is thrilled to have found a band like THONK. News and more... THONK release a live official bootleg! The 4th of january 2003 will be the date of releasing for the official bootleg "circle by THONK" recorded live at the progsol 02 festival on octobre 26 2002. The piano and drums performance will be sold in a limited edition of only 99 pieces. On "the shop" you can get your favorite number or bid for the number 1/99 (end of auction 1. of december 02) more infos about the release party on "gigs", more infos about the records on "the shop". Interview at Prog-Resiste from 2001: Gilles: You are a totally unknown group (to us, at least). Please present yourself. You did you meet, how you did you come to form Thonk ? Marc: In the October of 98, i and guitar player had the crazy idea to form a deep purple cover band. so i call flavio, our drummer and other rock-musician of the swiss rock city solothurn. 2 months later the guitar player and the singer left the band. So I brought the 1st fragments of a song without guitar- sounds to keep the musician. The bandmembers enjoy the ideas, and that was the start of thonk. The musicstyle was in the beginning more like a progressive- rock and jazz fusion. The style change more and more to art rock in the comming time of hard work, but the jazz influences still remains. The founder bassplayer of thonk left the band on may 2000, so fredy join the band at the same time. Gilles:What are your musical influences ? What kind of music do you listen to ? Marc: the rock-music of the 70's are the biggest influences. This mixed with jazz, fusion and classical influences of our music-schools. Gilles: How do you compose ? Marc: i write the songs on my piano at home, after this i record the music on minidisc and we make the final arrangements in the bandroom. Gilles: You are a trio. Is it deliberate or didn't you find other members? Marc: why a trio? at the moment we don't need more, to exprime our music. Less is more! Gilles: How did you meet Galileo, your label ? Marc: it's every the same story, a friend, of a friend, know a friend of patrick becker the head of galileo records. In switzerland we call this vitamine B. Gilles: why do you going to sweden to record your cd? Marc: in switzerland we have a very small rock-scene, and we like the sound of the swedish production. this is why we are going to sweden in the crimsonic studio of our producer pär lindh. Gilles: Did you play live ? In Switzerland, abroad ? Any plans for a tour ? Marc: we will start a litle tour in switzerland. the start will be the 29 of june with the relase party of our cd in solothurn. After we plan a couple of gigs in the countries around switzerland. Gilles: You are (I suppose) not professional musicians, what kind of job are you doing ? Marc: we are three students. I study piano at the jazz school and industrial design, flavio is a student in a drum school, and fredy is a university student. Gilles: Is music your only passion ? Do you have any other interests ? Marc: music is our biggest passion. Other passions are the collecting of vinyl records, but that's music too. Gilles: What are you future plans ? Any projects ? Marc: hm, the cd will' be relased on the 15 of june, and we will be surprised what happen. I start to write the comming concept album, but at the moment we will be playing live and introduce our album on stage. Gilles: Do you think you could live from your music one of these days ? Marc: I think thats the dream of any musicians to live from the own music, but the business is hard. We'll see what happens. At the moment we will have a lot of fun, and playing what we like! -- Gilles Arend (Prog-resiste) Band pics (also from the Wayback Machine): ![]() and ![]() Four more bands/artists to go... ![]() Edited by yam yam - March 16 2014 at 16:35 |

The Triangulus page has a review by Apostolis (aka apps79) which has an introduction that could maybe be used as a bio: http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=596712.
The band was formed by Peter Bryngelsson and Dan Jonsson of the band Ragnarök, and Peter has been in several other bands too: Google-translated from http://www.peterbryngelsson.com/cinematique.html: Born in Vetlanda in 1955 but grew up in Kalmar. Music group formed together Ragnarök in 1972 with comrades Henrik Strindberg (composer) and Staffan Strindberg (Architect). Ragnarök reorganized during the period between 1972-1982 a number of times but during this time, Peter was also a founding member of rock group Kung Tung and debuted as theater-music composer and composer of soundtracks. In 1983 he formed music group Triangulus and during the following years 1982-1990 did Peter's music in a larger size, with project oriented Special crews - Gitarrsis 1989 (music for 10 guitars), Kata Basis 1992 (music for six bass instrument)! A sopopera 1991 (music for Poet, opera singers and rock bands), and The Sound of Glass 1995 (music for double basses and crystal). Peter was also a member of the bands Urban Turban and Astro Turf. Peter and Dan went back to Ragnarök for the 2008 release Path. Edit: Possible band pic: http://www.peterbryngelsson.com/images/pb_2009.png ![]() ![]() ![]() Peter is on facebook too, so we could always contact him for a better one: https://www.facebook.com/peter.bryngelsson.1

Not much info on Twilight as yet: - They were a 70s German rock quartet with progressive tendencies, hailing from Bonn, consisting of Volkmar Kramarz on guitar and vocals, Ulrich Hülder on keyboards, Jürgen Bieler on bass and vocals, and Roland Glässer on drums and percussion. Their sole album was called 'Day And Night', which was originally released in 1975, and re-released in 2000 on CD by Garden Of Delights. Its cover is graced with a beautiful fantasy-themed artwork. They were comparable to maybe Harlis, a band formed by two members formerly of Jane, or Bullfrog, but with a hard-rock touch. Some photos of the band are available on this blog site: http://thezepphil.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/twilight.html. Two good ones here too: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_tmOX_XWiNY0/TBt3MKWVouI/AAAAAAAAA7g/s0VyPnFiWs8/s1600/Booklet5.jpg Or you could just use this image: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Perfectly usable, but short, bio for U I Blue can be found again courtesy of Apostolis's fine review of their album: http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=1133476, but for the full works go to: http://www.musicaldiscoveries.com/reviews/uiblue.htm.
![]() Edit: Here's a sample photo from the above link: ![]() ![]() Edit: This gorgeous album is on cdbaby: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/uiblue, from where this little summary is taken: Album Description This is the first release by the new band u i blue, based in Chattanooga TN, with founding members, main vocalist, Laura Lindstrom and songwriter/guitarist, Jon Paul Davis. Using Folk guitar riffs and vocal melodies mixed with Symphonic Progressive Rock influences, u i blue carves a new niche in the folk-rock world. With production by Glass Hammer, Sound Resources and Monsieur Boss Productions, this first enterprise has been described as "intoxicating" and "imminently listenable". Instruments include acoustic, electric guitars and piano by Jon Paul Davis, mellotron, ebow, electric guitars, keyboards and drums by Fred Schendel of Glass Hammer, keyboards by Steve Babb of Glass Hammer, bass guitar by Terry Clouse, viola, violin, cello by the Adonai String Trio clarinet by Jay Craven, and a guest vocal on Track 2 by Tracy Boyette. That's pretty well what Apostolis has already told us in his review, but I thought I'd mention it here in case anyone wants to buy a copy of the album.

Not much at the moment for Udraya - The band's mastermind was vocalist Jean-Paul Trutet, who formerly played (along with his brother Daniel, on guitar and bass) in the much better-known bands Hecenia, and before that Elohim . Daniel Trutet was also himself a part of Udraya, and actually played mandolin and cello on their only album (from 1999) called 'Incantations'. From: http://www.musearecords.com/ext_re_new_catselect.php?np=4607 On Incantations Jean-Paul alternates Celtic themes with inspired liturgical songs, Arabian inspired songs and ELOHIM-like songs. The songs are full of rich sounds and are remarkably orchestrated with the use of strings, horns, choirs.. His music is based upon delicate melodies with incredible vocal harmonies and performances. Jean-Paul TRUTET is without contest the best French singer, with great vocal qualities. Recommended. Jean-Paul's daughter Maude is the vocalist and founder of the band L'Effet Défée, who released an album called Al Trop in 2010. Jean-Paul also records, with his wife Sarah, as Crista Galli. After a long career as a musician-singer since 1980, Jean-Paul Trutet now leads courses and workshops on voice related to personal development, and also offers energy healing.
