^ Unfold the Future or Stardust We Are. UTF is better imo, but Stardust is probably the definitive FK release.

So yeah, Garden of Dreams is just awesome upon re-listen, and has one of the best melodies ever (5:07 about). Monsters & Men has some really great melodies, but it's not as fluid and generally inspired as their best compositions. There's a chunk of so-so sections in there. Driver's Seat from A&E isn't too bad (again, one super great melody that is in my head even now). That only leaves "Love Supreme", a couple dumb hard rock tracks (title tracks of A&E and PH) and the latest two, as far as what I actually dislike/am not too hot on.

I have developed a mind-trick to start to appreciate a saxophone solo - I just imagine the sax being played by the delightful Brunette Suzanne Reid - and all she is wearing is a smile....
Well it works for me!

My mind is all twisted up in knots. Due to trying to seek out the meaning of life. Through sacred texts, history, gods, beliefs, ideas,
ceremonies and literature. Philosophy and the philosophy of religions.
Exercise your mind, Discover the great thinkers who`s who. East meets west and the birth of beliefs. Life`s meaning is filled with wonder.

Mr Geek Freak - if you truly want to stretch your mind, I would recommend the following bibliography.
A. The selfish Gene (R. Dawkins)
B. The extended Phenotype (R. Dawkins)
C. The God Delusion (R. Dawkins)
D. Consciousness Explained (D. C. Dennett)
E. Darwin's Dangerous Idea (D. C. Dennett)
F. Freedom Evolves (D. C. Dennett)
G. Breaking the Spell (D. C. Dennett)
That should take you a while - I have to read Dennett REALLY slowly , but it's worth the while....

Science is a method, not a belief system.  It is a useful tool but can tell us nothing about the MEANING of life.  I'm not a follower of any particular religion, or even philosophy, but I can't see the point in reducing the world to only what science can "prove" and verify.  I put "prove" in quotes because science explains the physical universe but nothing is ever absolute in science....or at least it certainly shouldn't be.  ALL scientific assumptions are open to new testing, new hypotheses, new discoveries.  At least, that's how I've always understood the scientific method.

No, I think geekfreak's search is on the right track, though it certainly would broaden his knowledge and understanding to read the works you suggest Barney.  Science should certainly never be ignored, at the very least.

I did that for a long time from the age of 25 to about 45....got a shelf full of religious, metaphysical, and psychology books but in the end I listened to the words of Watts and Ram Dass who both said in different ways that 'the meaning of life', Truth, whatever you want to call it is not something you can 'know' but something you must be.

As Roj uses Douglas Adams meaning of life though why he chose 42 when everbody knows that the true integer of truth is -1...because of course in the physical world it is impossible to actually eat more apples than you have in the fruit bowl !!!
And I never said that I was reading to discover the meaning of life - I was just giving geek freak a set of interesting books to read!
I do realise that science is method for testing the real world and that Science is always looking to refine the model of reality. But far too many people are deafened by the "Noise" of the supernatural and think that science removes the romance and beauty of life...As was succinctly said - "It is enough to appreciate the beauty of the Garden in summer - without having to believe that fairies live at the bottom of it!!!"

Well, we agree then Barney Thumbs Up

* he did actually say he was searching for the meaning of life, so your response of a reading list certainly implied that you thought those books would help......which they very well might

Balance your list of books -

Here would be my list. Add a few to your mix and good luck in your search ;)

1. John's Gospel
2. Mere Christianity - CS Lewis
3. Evidence That Demands a Verdict - Josh McDowell
4. The Devil's Delusion - David Berlinski (like Dennett, read slowly!)
5. Can a Man Live Without God - Ravi Zacharias
6. Lord of The Rings - JRR Tolkien

sorry I forgotten about a chat with friends about the `80`s . what a nostalgia, sentimental journey through the N. W. O. B. H. M music. you now Saxon, Maiden, Venom and many others. this heavy metal music as been apart of my listening to many of the bands that made up the
N. W. O. B. H. M!. other topic`s where punk bands we didn't own up to listening to back in the late `70`s. mine where sex pistols, clash, dammed, x-ray specs and 999. we mmmmmmmmmmmh DINOSAURS
shouldn't have been listening to punk. because we Sabbath/Zeppelin or
Prog Rock!. fan`s shouldn't have been listening to punk rock music. than we spoken about thrash metal bands, the four thrash titans, add
machine head and pantra. which is when my friends where as they where looking through my vinyl/cd`s. they found some of the above bands in there. I`ve been a open minded music freak. as well as talking about the world news, history and friendship. oh add doom, stoner music too!!.

One of the first four.

Definitely not The Rainmaker, Unfold the Future, A&E, Sum of No Evil or the new one.

Hm. I think that there should always be Balance - I provided GeekFreak with a list of verifiable reference books...
Crumple generously supplied him with the works of fiction!
I am currently in reference books reading mode....
But I do like fiction! (of course you have to recognise a book as such or you are in deep trouble!)...

Hm' (4) do PEOPLE genuinely believe in the Devil anymore?? Might as well believe that if you dig too deep you awake the BALROG!! (6).
Funnily enough man has mined to ridiculous depths (in South Africa for instance.) and yet - No fiery monster with a similarly aflame whip has been found....strange though it may seem - Tolkien may have just made the whole thing up mind you it's a lot more believable than 99.9% of the fecking bible that's for sure!!!
