I reckon that TA's next CD should be called "Pastor Jamie Coots, the latest winner of a Darwin Award!". (a six part epic!)
I. Pick up your viper and pray.
II. Don't worry, my faith will protect me!
III. Crap, it's bitten me but I know that Jesus will protect me from the zoo-toxin!
IV. I don't need no Doctor.
V. Oblivion.
VI. Darwin award for such crass stupidity!
ho hum...

So I've recently acquired Space Revolver having previously not listened to any FK.

I love it. A lot.

Any suggestions as to which FK album (or two) to go towards next? they have so many and I don't know if there sound has changed/evolved over time. Would the new one be the way to go? Or perhaps something nearer to SR?

thanks in advance.

Well then, Flower Power, Stardust We Are - these make up the triumvirate of middle era FK's - These are all good!

I like some DT, yes.  Opeth, I really only have liked Damnation and the most recent one, which I REALLY like.....but it can't really be called metal at all.

Generally speaking though, I'm not a big fan of metal of any variety.  I had a phase in my mid teens where I listened to and loved a lot of Iron Maiden, Dio, Black Sabbath, Metallica, etc.  In the last 20 years though I've become less and less interested in it.  I guess my favorite prog metal would be Liquid Tension Experiment.  Saw them live at Nearfest and it was one of the most incredible concerts I've ever seen.

I'd say stick with the albums before Space Revolver for now, then move on to the albums after that.  Barney's suggestions of Flower Power and Stardust We Are are very good ones.  Get the four albums before Space Revolver, as well as the Roine Stolt solo album The Flower King (which started it all), then move on to the albums after that.  Personally, my favorite releases from the 2000's by TFK are Unfold The Future and The Sum Of No Evil.  Paradox Hotel is a good one with a different approach, and the two most recent are kind of stripped down TFK (not my favorite, but both are pretty solid albums).

I agree with Barney about Adam & Eve, probably still my least favorite (though Banks is close).  Still, there used to be at least one person in this thread that considered it their absolute best, and most fans seem to think it's a solid album, if not number one in their list.

I think you are fine if you start with anything but The Rainmaker or The Sum of No Evil, both of which have their moments, but overall the songwriting on both isn't up to the level as most of the other albums.

Can't agree about Sum, it's in my top 5 FK albums.  However, I still recommend the 90's stuff as the best place to start.

yeah progressive rock fan`s will nearly always be in different points of view on different albums. within in a bands back catalogue. like with where to start listening to which album first. you could also say that Ronnie`s solo album TFK is a great first choice. well how about the band KAIPA: Notes From The Past/ Keyholder/ Mindrevolutions.
these three albums are personnel fav`s.       too!. add TA to the list to. wow there is some great PROG ROCK.

Approximately 6 years ago I ordered Stardust We Are, my first TFK album.  One of the best decisions I ever made.

Can't agree about Sum, it's in my top 5 FK albums.

I just can't get on board with that record.

Love Is the Only Answer and The Sum of No Reason both have some really good moments, but also some moments that could have been a lot better or simply left out.

One More Time is still their most boring as hell song (not counting super short transitional tracks) ever.

Trading My Soul and Flight 999 (Brimstone Air) are both pretty good, but I never get the urge to listen to either. They are tracks that are just kind of there.

Life in Motion suffers from the Starlight Man disease: very cool verses dragged way down by a limp, weak as hell chorus.

Following that album, by far their worst, IMO, they took their only break ever.  Quite fitting, if you ask me.

Well, needless to say I don't agree with any of this whatsoever.  Flight 999 is what I consider a throwaway track (though the drumming is quite impressive, I think it was a missed opportunity for Tomas to do a better instrumental in the vein of something like Rumble Fish Twist).  One More Time is the best track on the whole album.......if you want boring as hell put on Monsters & Men or Numbers, those both get that description from me.  Life in Motion.....I have no idea what you are talking about.  We must be hearing two different songs (though I guess I agree about the verse being cool).

No I'd say at this point that taking a break lost them all the momentum they were building back up with Sum.  Since their return they've presented two albums that lack any of the fire, creativity, and instrumental prowess of Sum and many of the albums before it.  Of course, Roine still pulls off some great guitar solos, and all the members are still excellent musicians..........they just aren't utilizing their talents to the fullest, if you ask me.

Just fyi, Roine is not Ronnie. Wink  Pet peeve of mine (and probably Roine's as well).

It's possible I'm wrong, but I've never seen his name in print that way (except in some fan comments and reviews) and on stage it is always pronounced "Roy-na" (which is how you pronounce Roine).  I do know that in Swedish, Hasse is a "short" name for someone named Hans.  I don't think the same is true for Roine and Ronnie, but I guess I really don't know for certain.

I have the limited edition SoNE, I think I may have to give this CD a few spins as it's possibly the least played of all my FK CD's.
I also need to re-visit my Kaipa CD's because I think that they need some attention also!
I'll have me two-penneth when I have assimilated the music! Mind you I see a saxophonist on the list of musicians (SoNE) - I am not a big fan of the saxophone as everybody knows

Yeah, that might be a turn off for you but to be honest, I forget that there is a sax on that album as it doesn't rise up in the mix very often.

TSoNE took me a while to really love.  In fact, it wasn't until last year and my disappointment with Banks that I pulled it out and started listening to it again and fell in love with it.
