An exaggerated rating of an album being slammed for not being prog/progressive because it doesn't have Supper's Ready-material on it. Oh well.

All that review did is to make me avoid further reviews from a so-called reviewer who obviously has no idea what they are talking about. That gains no respect from anyone as it does not even justify the one star review, and thats lazy reviewing by any standard.

Honestly I only liked one of the tracks he listed as "classic." LOL

While I totally disagree with his review (DSOTM is one of my favs) and his seemingly symph=good mentality, I don't really have much of a problem with the fact that he gave an album a lot of people love one star. Of course, his delivery is, well, as Barney as ever.

I don't think the album being a "universally regarded classic" should be cause for indignation at the review.  The review itself isn't great but not a total wash.  His comparison to other "classics" is perhaps a bit of apples and oranges but does make a point whether you agree with it or not.  The part about righting the balance is a bit sketchy but more for the reporting reviews thread.

^ It does not matter how old this site gets, it could be 50 years old, not 10 and subjective reviews/ratings will also surface with alarming ratings. And it is all about association. How many reviewers know Steve Harley's " Death Trip" track he compares DSOTM too?Confused  the review is not offensive and pretty well written. The overall ratings will always win, so a one off is not gonna change history for this timeless classic.

edit: and whoever reviews a piece of music based purely on how progressive it is, according to their subjective opinion, well shouldn't be taken too seriously anyway

Just went to look at the unreviewed list, and I'm not sure how up to date it is.
 
I do have a question and 2 examples:
 
Ange: Au Dela Du Delire and Emile Jacotey
Alquin: Wheelchair Groupie and Fool in the Mirror
 
Ange's two albums got released somewhere else or another distributor. Why would another review be needed?
 
Alquin's titles are two songs, and these were single releases, not albums.
 
I have not taken an in-depth look at the actual band's list on this website, but find it strange that some information was just grabbed from somewhere and not checked.
 
Unless these were different recorded versions, and most bands don't have those resources, the review would still be the same, though seeing as a single should not affect the album's details.
 
I've been looking at the list, but seeing singles is scary, specially if they were a part of other albums.
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

The Ange is a two-for-one double pack, which we regard as a "Box Set and Compilation" - exactly like Floyd's "A Nice Pair" and the Genesis release "Best of..." on the Buddha label.

If you want to review it you can, it's up to you. However, if you don't actually have the box set as displayed on the page then I strongly recommend you don't.

Unless you own these as actual singles I do not recommend that you submit a review based upon the album track.

No they would not be the same. Often they are edits, sometimes they are different recordings, and all singles have a b-side, often these are non-album tracks so unless you own the single you really should not review it.

What's wrong with singles? As long as they are listed under the "Official Singles, EPs, Fan Club & Promo (CD, EP/LP, MC, Digital Media Download)" section of the discography there is no foul.


They're only scary if someone throws them at you like a Frisbee.

Chris' album is nice, but Nobody and Best Kept Secret are both really nice albums, but we can't get past the Chicago style and hear something different. Both albums are excellent, and in many ways much more enjoyable than Chris'  in my book. And not pretentious!

It's ridiculous, Dean! Why the fudge would you want a review of the 3 minute version of "Light My Fire", and not the whole song, or the album? Because we let a database control our lives and we're too silly/bored (and in some cases, rude!)  to edit the results of a database, in order to clean up the stuff that doesn't need to be there?
