The U.S.A is a strange place, in some states you get liberal views on homosexuality and thriving adult movie industry. In others they don't even let children learn about evolution and kissing your wife in public could lead to a jail sentence.
What is the common denominator between these states and similarly oppressive states in the middle east? Answers on a postcard please ![]() |

That looks lovely! While Roine has always sprinkled in religious references (not all of them Christian, mind you), I really haven't noticed any increase in that on the last two albums, particularly DR. I suppose Banks leaned a lot more Christian than previous albums but I'm not getting that from DR. Maybe it's just me. As to Morse, I think he's held back admirably on the last two TA albums, though as Barney says it's pretty obvious what the lyrics focus on, for the most part. I think Stolt has always been a spiritual person, though not necessarily subscribing to any particular religion. Maybe that has changed in the past few years, I don't know. For me, it doesn't really make any difference. If I like the music, and the lyrics aren't completely terrible, I'm good with it (heck I even like The Count Of Tuscany, even though it has what I consider to be the worst lyrics of any prog song I've ever heard). The most recent Ayreon album is problematic for me because I think the lyrics are just ridiculous. They are all about coming up with a Unified Theory for astro physics (or something like that I guess), so no religious lyrics to speak of really.......but it's all just so ridiculously literal. Which might be okay if it was like reading a good novel or something, but it's just not. I like the music, but those lyrics make it hard for me to take seriously. I sometimes have that problem with Neal Morse, and even Roine (though with Roine, it's usually just certain phrases or lines, not whole songs). |

I think that Lucassen has DELIBERATELY chosen that subject matter because he knew that the TA CD would be coming out later. I have listened to that CD once, need to re-spin a few times. It has some fantastic parts, and some less than memorable - I like the physics lyrics a lot more than I like Christian clap-trap - but that's just me I suppose !!!

Thanks,.again you guys know better than I about the background to Roine's/TFK lyrics. I agree about TCoT, pretty weird lyrics, I don't like to criticize but they are kinda Lord of the Ring'ish LOL! But I do really like the song... I have not spent a lot of time paying attention to TFK lyrics, I just know there are some religious references strewn about....which I have no problems with.....I like The Flower Kings.

I'll tell you what - You may just get this thread fookin locked putting such filth on it - Music sung by boy bands has ONLY one purpose! That is to facilitate an increase in the sales of knickers (panties to those across the pond) to replace those either thrown at the boy bands, or those that need to be replaced due to rotting gussets due to the creaming effect of said bands.....

@infandous,
good point about the new ayreon. good music, but those lyrics are so damn goofy. incidentally, i've been listening to SoNE. One More Time is definitely one of my favorite TFK tracks. Just love the arrangement...how they reprise the intro. I wish they did that on Driver's Seat. That intro is awesome!

Yeah, agree about Driver's Seat. I always felt that song seemed unfinished. One More Time is a great track, though it's hard for me to pick a favorite on TSoNE. Should have the new TA today or tomorrow, so I imagine I'll be putting my initial thoughts here. As it is, I did what I usually never do, listened to a couple tracks before getting the album. Shine is the most horrible thing I've ever heard from any of those guys, and Black As The Sky is a very good tune. Hopefully, the album is more like the latter than the former for me......... |

i wish Black As The Sky had been incorporated into an epic. it is agreat stand alone though. i've not warmed up to the new TA at all. lots of filler in the epics.

The longer epic has potential, but the two ballads are awful and SKIP> tracks if ever there was such a thing!!! |

Ok, so I'm incredibly excited about something I found in my mailbox last night. I got home and found an envelope stamped 'Royal Mail' and customs and all of that. I assumed that it was the Placebo (not-prog) CD that I had ordered a few weeks ago from a used CD shop in Britain. I opened the envelope and looked inside and saw a wash of blue and orange with some scribbling on the front of it. For about a half second I wrote if off . . . then I realized what it was:
A few months ago, Arena announced that they were thinking of remastering "Contagion" as a double CD with the initially dropped songs, added back in in their proper order and asked for fan funding. Well shoot, I jumped on that right away as this has been a top five album for me for quite some time. I had forgotten I ordered it. I received the complete, remastered and signed copy yesterday. . . color me happy.

Contagion rocks Rob, it's a great place to start. It is definitely more of the Neo vein but if you like Pendragon and Frost* then I think you'll enjoy Arena.

Allow me to announce my return by answering my good friend Barney's question: Most of us here in the USA are like Infandous, myself & Zuma. Young handsome lads that wish no harm on anybody. The problem people you referred to are descendents from that retard John Smith and those clowns from your country who came here on the Mayflower. As I recall my history: "puritanism" and whitch burning were clever little tricks that you English Imperialists brought to our pristine shores here in America. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
