All that review did is to make me avoid further reviews from a so-called reviewer who obviously has no idea what they are talking about. That gains no respect from anyone as it does not even justify the one star review, and thats lazy reviewing by any standard. 

It is a stunning album and deserves full recommendation for its original approach and innovation.

You may have missed this passage:

I did not. But as being the exception to the rule, it counts that much less. It would have mattered if the reviews of the other four tracks were in fact about the music and the lyrics, and not the person who wrote it.
And what about this:

Track one - (Into the Blue) the opening epic. This has good bits, and a reasonably lengthy Stolt solo, but for me the patchy good bits do not mask a going-through-the-motions exercise. 

Track Two - (Shine) H'm, lyrically awful and bland, not saved by a very powerful Stolt solo

Track Three - (Black as the Sky) - Now here is a saving track! Forget the lyrical content, ........ the music is good (some of it lifted from Spock's Beard Snow), but this is a good track musically powerful with nice keyboards, worth having in your collection

It still looks as a proper review to me. He has probably underlined the lyrics too much, the concept was clear after few lines, but he tells something about the music. Am I wrong?


Granted that review points out many aspects of the music and why it deserves a listen. But if he laid off the opportunity to attack Christians' beliefs in his review that would be more respectful. As soon as i read the line sl*g.ing off Christians I lost all respect and stopped reading. If this is where reviewing is going it is a poor state of affairs. it is about time reviewers stuck to their game and actually reviewed the albums without such blatant bias towards a belief system. In doing so they do not harm the artist or album rather lose respect by many who may hold dear to the very beliefs they set out to attack.

Ah, but that's maybe a matter of "taste"... I think he does justify it but maybe not with a polite manner.
E.g. the music sounds simplistic (to a degree, at least to me) and the storyline could seem banal to someone, granted.

But "crap", "ugh", "shut up"... are a bit too harsh, but nevertheless I did find reading this entertaining....

I'd often rather read one tasteless, but entertaining amateur review than a tasteful, yet bland, descriptive amateur review, but that really is a matter of taste (odd in a way how being tasteful is often bland where being tasteless can be wickedly delicious).  I pray to god hope that we I will be tolerant enough to accept ridicule of our my own belief systems opinions. ;)

Yeah Ok, granted the review is entertaining enough to spark strong reactions 

But what about the guidelines here? are they being adhered to?

i seem to remember readng somewhere - 

4 - Write in an intelligent and considerate manner. Rude or insulting language (including blatant vulgarity) will not be tolerated! Show respect for other reviewers, readers, the artists, and the CD and song titles. Do not belittle reviews posted by others, their opinions are as welcome and valid as yours. It is generally best to avoid commenting on other reviews altogether. 

The following are examples of phrases which should NOT appear in reviews: "Reviewer Joe Smith is stupid for saying that...", "Anyone who doesn't like this album is an idiot", "The band which made this album is rubbish", etc.,

Anyhow I think he should at least remove the harshness of the review as its not the reviewers privilege or position to attack just for the sake of attacking an artist and even attempting to bring the high star rating down.

Honestly I only liked one of the tracks he listed as "classic." LOL

While I totally disagree with his review (DSOTM is one of my favs) and his seemingly symph=good mentality, I don't really have much of a problem with the fact that he gave an album a lot of people love one star. Of course, his delivery is, well, as Barney as ever.
