I was told once a long time ago that the seeds in the core of the apples were poisonous.  If I recall, they contain arsenic.  Not sure if this is true or just an old wive's tale.  And it is true.  Although the truth is cyanide, not arsenic.  http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/apples.asp

Well I eat the apple skin, pips, and core, and yes the pips do contain cyanide, but you would have to eat about two kilo's of pips in one sitting to get enough cyanide to do you any harm! and that's a lot of apples! (I only have one a day usually).
I read on the internet - some doctor was actually testing his thesis that the human body was using the cyanide ingested to kill cancer cells! - Seems a little far-fetched to me. The real reason I eat the whole apple is that I hate throwing any fresh food away!!! - And since I paid for the apple - I am going to get my monies worth !!!

well I have been eating apples whole since I was about five years old - if I die and the autopsy reveals death by long-term ingested cyanide poisoning - I'll have my family have a plaque made with the slogan - An apple a day - leads to premature death.....unless of course I was 110 when I died.....

Barney, have you seen the Reviews Discussion thread?  Your Transatlantic review has been the subject of some discussion.

It began in the Review Reporting thread, but the majority of the discussion is in the Review Discussion Thread.  http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=28344&PN=163

Did I upset some people - that's good ! The review reflected my thoughts. A man is entitled to his views unless of course they advocate the intent to harm any living thing intentionally! I have no enmity towards Neal Morse, I wish him a peaceful life and to live long and prosper, just hope that (if he is involved) the next TA CD has some other subject matter than the unproven hand of god and the life-destroying notion that we live forever after our deaths !!!
Live life NOW you suckers - and spread laughter and peace upon your fellow denizens of this green and pleasant spinning planet !!!
PEACE! (P.S. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED ?)

Anyway, who would want to live forever? I am quite looking forward to the peace of death - No more taxes and a mither free rest until the heat death of the universe......

I reckon that you'll fall well short, and if you were to live forever - you'll soon be playing each and every flower king CD for the 12,000,000,000,000,000 spin.....and even the FK's would be tedious after that kind of repetition !!!!

Mr Barney, if you know you're not going to like an album where Neal Morse is a principal songwriter why do you spend the amount of time needed to absorb the music and then the time to write a review? Personally I wouldn't waste the time on listening to it in the first place more than the amount needed to get a feel for it.

For the record I'm in the same place and simply avoid his albums.

I haven't posted a lot here lately but wanted to at least take a second to answer this question, why does Rob (Barney) take the time to absorb and listen to the music.  This guy loves new symphonic prog, trust me when I say this, he took the time and bought the CD because he wants to love it.  He is a huge fan of all things symphonic.  He is a very knowledgeable person and one could say insanely passionate about the genre.

His writing style is flamboyant to say the least but this is a man that truly bought this CD with the hopes of loving it.

Thanks Tom! I thought long and hard about the review - but felt it time (after reading the other reviews) that the dearth of lyrical matter or the repetition should be commented on - maybe my irritation made the review slightly more personal towards Morse and his beliefs than I originally intended - but I then was subjected to a lot of hostility ! - I suppose my eventual anti-religious responses were a reposte to the furore that was built up like the whirlwind !!!
I suppose that any review that requires such a response has achieved what it set out to do - make people take time and buy the CD and MAKE THEIR OWN MIND UP - whether Morse has overused his own personal journey to the detriment of the music that TA produced!

For what it's worth Barney, I quite enjoyed your review.  Of course, I always find your religious comments quite funny, even though I am not myself an atheist (though I don't subscribe to any organized religion).

I suppose certain people on this site will appreciate my take on the new release ! I think that Morse HAS tried to lessen the more obvious Christian influences - He doesn't actually mention Jesus, or any specific god for that matter - but anybody who knows him will realise that the whole 5 tracks have but one subject content!
It amazes me that so called LIBERAL people happily forget that (seriously) Religious people (given enough power) would quite happily remove the liberties that they feel incompatible with their dogma! I had a Muslim colleague once, who in all seriousness, told me that ALL music was the work of the devil and would be banned when Britain submits to Sharia law!
onwards and upwards!

Since this is TFK appreciation thread.........I was spinning this last night

This album is slooooowly growing on me....and I think it is because of all the religious tones that inhabit this album, especially the bonus side.
I really do not care, but I guess because I know Neal Morse's position it does not affect me as much as if I am not sure of one's position......I believe Roine and the boys are not just doing the religious tones just for sh*tts and giggles, its there because it means something to them.
IDK, you guys know more about TFK than I do I am sure, but I like all their music pretty much....The last couple albums especially, which to me have a lot of religious tones, which give it that feel good atmoshpere, I would not have a problem with my 10yr old reading the lyric sheets......Even though music is art, I would have a problem with my 10yr old reading the lyric sheets to say Slayer's music.
But that is just me....I like The Flower Kings, Neal Morse and Transatlantic.

I listen to music because I like it, bad lyrics and all. IMO there are tons and tons of horrid lyrics out there, but for me the music over shadows some of those lyrics.
One that comes to mind....Magma, for me its like are you kidding me!!?? But some of the music is good, but the vocal/lyric side keep me away.....but again that is just me!

Same as Slayer and all the black/death/cryptic metal, some of the music is ok but I could never get over the lyrics. Are you kidding GRRM......heck schools can't even read Catcher In the Rye, thats porn! LOL

EDIT: you can send your vinyl to me! Clap
