Well, I wouldn't necessarily call them 'prog rock' as we know it. But what FNM did was definitely very 'progressive'. They melded together soul, funk, rap, thrash metal, jazz, lounge, punk, and everything in between.

"Epic" is probably the only thing you've heard from the band.

I hear a big influence from Patton-era FNM in Daniel Gildenlow's work with Pain Of Salvation. Is it just me? Both are very talented singers, in bands that go against the norm, and produce eclectic, complex music which doesn't easily fit into a genre classification.
I enjoy both, personally. What do you think? |

There's a lot more to FNM than the hit singles. They're an albums band, really. The singles are comparatively commercial-sounding.

I got King for a Day... just a few days ago, and am loving it. Totally eclectic, maybe even more so than Angel Dust. It covers so many genres. Who could imagine Evidence and Cuckoo for Caca were by the same band, on the same album?

FNM could be not "prog" in sense of this site, but they are close-minded to prog. the music is very eclectic, with elements of many styles . They could be considered as experimental nu-metal band (actually, they invented nu-metal)

FNM's a stellar band. Angel Dust is a milestone, IMO.

Given that I had read lot's of praise for Pain of Salvation on this forum before, I'm really surprised that they are losing to an (arguably) non-prog band. Though I'm afraid to say that I know absolutley nothing from Faith no More, except that I knew their name already. Perhaps I've heard some song, but never knew it was them.

I know little of Pain of Salvation, but I really like Faith no More. I think "Angel dust" is a very progressive album, as well as a masterpiece.
