Everybody could just save themselves some effort and pick up Yessongs. None of the highly underrated Keys material, but still the best from the best.

or a load of other stuff. I don't like 90125 much but would still include Cinema amongst my favourite Yes tracks

I'm going to try to do this without looking at other people's answers on here first. Limiting it to just ten will be tough but here it goes.
(in no order and mostly epics) 1. Close to the Edge 2. Endless Dream 3. The Gates of Delirium 4. Ritual 5. I'm Running 6. Starship Trooper ( I prefer the live versions of this usually but I'll just stick with the original for this list). 7. And you and I 8. Hearts 9. Heart of the Sunrise 10. Home World Wow, I somehow forgot Awaken. Oh well. Here's five leftovers that didn't make my list. 1. Awaken 2. Southside of the Sky 3. Perpetual Change 4. Brother of Mine 5. Holy Lamb Edited by Prog_Traveller - October 11 2013 at 23:39 |

i think there is little injustice to machine messiah in many lists; No rating between the 10 from me (only chronological):
Perpetual Change/Yours is (of course) no Disgrace/Roundabout/And You And I/Close to the Edge/Awaken/ Turn of the Century/Machine Messiah/Endless Dream/Fly From Here

1. Close to the Edge
2. I've Seen All Good People 3. Roundabout 4. Yours is No Disgrace 5. Starship Trooper 6. Heart of the Sunrise 7. And You and I 8. Perpetual Change 9. Long Distance Runaround 10. Siberian Khatru I've only listened to their "prime" years- "The Yes Album," "Close to the Edge," and "Fragile"- and some of the stuff from their earlier years with Peter Banks. Although "Changes" was the first song by Yes I have ever heard and is important to me for that reason, I can tell from what others have to say that I won't care for "90125" or any of the stuff with that other guitarist, Trevor... whatever is name is. I plan on listening to "Tales from Topographic Oceans", "Relayer," and maybe "Going for the One." After I get familiarized with more of Yes, who are still one of my absolute favorite bands (along with Pink Floyd and E.L.P.), I'll update my list and write a new one in this forum (if I remember to). |

So sorry you're willing to sell yourself short by dissing Rabin. I predict you really will enjoy the Grammy-winning "Cinema" (you have time; it's only a little longer than 2 minutes), and "Endless Dream", which was posted as a favorite just above. I also think that you'll find other rewarding material if you explore further. So tired of hearing the Rabin put-downs; they're endless in Prog Archives. All he did was revive the band so that a whole new generation of fans could enjoy them. And anything that helps this band along toward possibly getting into the Rock & Roll HOF is a good thing. Which that did. Because don't many of you want others to know what a great band (and possibly by extension, progressive rock) is? That's a huge boost toward the recognition they've deserved for a looooong time. Or are you like American Conservatives who are only interested in an ideological purity of a "Golden Age" of the band in the '70's? |
