Man these albums are so close for me that I can't honestly take one over the other. One of those rare times when two albums are equal for me.

It's funny to see just how divided opinions are about the tracks on BWP. I actually think the title track is the best on the album by far, but each song presents a memorable riff or passage. |

I like BWP park more because of how ridiculously well it uses the contrast of bleak, acoustic passages and awesome riffs. I think there's more buildup and emotion in it. And I think it's Akerfeldt's best vocal performance.

Although I agree with you, I actually think that the title track of BWP is easily the weakest. The first riff of Bleak is probably my favourite Opeth riff ever.
Actually no the final one in Face Of Melinda. Or the lead riff in The Moor. Or that epically brvtal one in SPD.
Yeah I really don't get how BWP is rated better than Still Life.

I think Still Life is an excellent album, but Blackwater Park is a masterpiece

Blackwater Park for me, but I'm biased since that's the album that got me into the band.

Blackwater Park for me.
Still Life is quite good, but I prefer the two albums it's sandwiched between.

A bit shocked to see Still Life is that far ahead. It's good but for me not a patch on the amazing Blackwater Park. It's probably their best, though Deliverance and Ghost Reveries are right up there too.

Yeah. In 2008, as it turns out (I thought it was more recently).

Did you hear the remastered version? The improvement in sound quality is tremendous. It actually helped me enjoy the album a lot more. |
Is that the 5.1 remix that came out a few years ago? I haven't heard it since there's no point in having two albums of the same thing, but if the stereo mix is improved as well I may consider getting it and passing on my current copy.

^Definitely. I haven't heard the version before the remastering, but I can vouch for how balanced and complete the mix is after the apparent touch-ups. I also like the updated album cover much more too. One of my all time favorites, actually. It was the wallpaper on my phone for several months.
