I and three other people actually believe that Gaga makes better music than the other artists on the list. If we have to save someone, why not the artist we like most?

Who says you have to save someone? Just play the game to reduce everyone to zero. Anytime someone gets raised above, for example, 30 points - just drop them below 30 again. No actual need to push anyone all the way to 40 points.
If I started a BOTB game about painful injuries and diseases, nobody would vote to save anything at all. You can vote "SAVE" on something that's a long way from 40 points, and if anything approaches that score just stop voting for it, or reduce it again.
Putting it another way:
10 things in the game. Everyone can vote to KILL the first thing, while varying their choices of what to save. 20 'turns' later, that first thing has been reduced to zero points, and everything else has only had 2 points each added.
