That's about the sum of it. Possibly something to do with a chart bound single and to top that kids singing on it! I don't really mind though.

One thing I remember distinctly was that when it came out a very surprised (with himself) John Peel played it on his program. Took me by surprise too.


The Wall is far from my favourite one (though it's far from my least favourite too). As a matter of fact, I would give it a Masterpiece status too. And I do enjoy Another Brick in the Wall 2. However, they had much better masterpieces, and the sound from their previous 3 albums was something really special, with longer songs, more melody... more music and less words. I believe they had a better ballance between music and concept than The Wall.

I'll be the first to give Saucerful the nod since I've been playing it quite a lot lately. The suffocating yet spacey production gives the whole thing this weird and haunting vibe...a lot different than your typical late 60s psychedelia. Even Corporal Clegg's wacky kazoos get offset near the end by violent war chaos, and Jugband Blues is one of Syd's most potent moments, with the goofiness matched by an underlying creepiness as the horns start blathering away followed by that sad, brilliant ending. I kind of like the live version of the title track more on Ummagumma more due to the more 'soulful' vocals during the last section, but other than that SFoS is a complete winner to me.

All of them, but Meddle has everything: The long suite with psychedelic moments, the rock of One of These Days, some catchy songs, the humour of Seamus and the original idea of mixing You'll never walk alone with Fearless.

You know, Luca, it occured to me looking over this list that there's not a single Floyd album I dislike, even if there's only a few that I still return to pretty often these days.

Twenty years ago, that band was so important to my friends and I, and I remember them fondly from that period of my life.
