Could the chap with the dark glasses on the left be the late British DJ, Alan 'Fluff' Freeman?

Kansas' Steve Walsh circa 1977.
While on this side of the pond the keyboard wizards were wearing capes and horse-riding boots, in the States they were nearly naked, but the acrobatics were pretty much the same LOL

^ Hmmm ... I wonder what the story is behind this shot. How did those bands come together?

^ I've seen that pic captioned as 1973, but I think it's earlier. Genesis (and VdGG) had toured Italy with Le Orme before then, that's what secured them a deal with Charisma in '73.
What?

I just looked it up in my "Genesis I Know What I Like" book and unfortunately it doesn't mention what Italian bands they toured with, but it says, "By February 1972, Van Der Graaf's Pawn Hearts was No. 1 there, and by April, when Genesis crossed over the Alps for their first seven-date Italian tour, Nursery Cryme was No. 4."  It also mentions a second Italian tour in Aug 1972.

A couple of other fun facts from the book...

1)  "Watcher of the Skies" was written during the first Italian tour.  Banks saying he wrote the lyrics with Rutherford in Naples, "We were sitting out on top of this building, and it was a hot sunny day, and we were just looking out across a vast area of buildings and fields, and there wasn't a soul to be seen.  It looked like the whole population had just deserted the planet, and that's what 'Watcher of the Skies' is all about...an alien being coming to the planet and seeing it completely deserted."

2)  In March 1972, the top 5 albums on the Italian charts were:
1) Van Der Graaf - Pawn Hearts
2) PFM - Storia di un Minuto
3) ELP - Pictures at an Exhibition
4) Genesis - Nursery Cryme
5) King Crimson - Islands

It's not too often that we see Chris Squire swapping the Rickenbacker by the Fender Jazz Bass

Brian May in Queen's good period, wearing one of his semi-capes

Bill Bruford endorsing the Simmons electronic drums

PFM early days

Lifeson and Lee squeezing their double-necks

David Bowie and Mick Ronson guitar fellatio

Bowie and Mick Ronson in the train, not sure if that's a tie or a bib LOL

Coffee time

Led Zeppelin had a dedicated plane too

Todd Rundgren as Venus in 1972, can you get any more glam than that? LOL

Queen in 1976, who would have said then that these same guys would release songs like Another One Bites The Dust and Radio Ga-Ga...
BTW, a sunburst Gibson Les Paul is standing behind Brian May, I think I never saw him playing one.

Bowie 1971, you could make a parachute out of those pants LOL

And another one from 1971, The Man Who Sold The World, those who have seen the movie Velvet Goldmine can easily make the link to that part of the story, at the concert just when he first meets Iggy Pop / Lou Reed.
