You need to do something about the "Live Floating Anarchy" posting under the Gong Live albums section. There are a number of factual problems with it.
1. Live Floating Anarchy isn't a Gong album, it's a "Planet Gong" album, which was the Here and Now Band with Daevid Allen and Gilli Smythe as guests. Daevid did the very Gong-ish cover art and featured the word "GONG" in big capital letters, but it's still not a Gong album. 2. The first review not only gets this wrong, but also talks about Steve Hillage's guitar work. Steve Hillage does not appear on this album. Here and Now Band's guitarist Steffi Sharpstrings (OK, I can see why the reviewer though that was another one of Hillage's pseudonyms, as I also did for many years) does sound a lot like him, though. Well, instead of going on, let me refer you to my write-up of the Here and Now Band at the GEPR: http://www.gepr.net/he.html#HEREANDNOW Feel free to copy any or all of it, as long as you attribute it to me personally or to the GEPR. |

Sean Trane did a review for the wrong album:
It's supposed to be a review for H To He..., but he reviewed it in the review page of the album The Least We Can Do.... This proves that even collaborators can be wrong.

I'm not sure whether I like it or understand it for that matter. Is it even a review? I'm not suggesting a deletion btw, I was just caught by surprise if you know what I mean... He seems like he knows his stuff though - just take a quick glance at some of the other albums he's rated.

I don't agree with it either, but it does not seem deserving deletion. However, when someone challenges the established wisdom, which is obviously everybody's right and a healthy exercise, I believe that they should feel extra compelled into explaining why they do so, and in this case I find that the arguments are too weak not to say completely missing. I will welcome any antagonist review towards this album (and the Cardiacs in general) if it is well articulated.

Nice enough review, but it's all about opinions while actual content appears to have been left by the wayside. Shallow and superficial, but nice enough.

![]() It does read more like a critical article than review. He is no writer, but I don't see any violations except maybe the excessive foul language. Edited by Atavachron - June 16 2013 at 18:28 |

Says the man who has only rated the Dream Theatre's 2nd & 3rd albums from 20 years ago.
![]() There is nothing wrong in reviewing an album as soon as it is released but we all know that our opinion of albums we rave about when we first hear them changes with repeated listens. Not that many of these 5-star albums ever get repeated listens by most of the people who've reviewed them. Yes, new releases and up ands coming bands need promotion but it's not our job to do that, our rôle is to give a fair assessment of the music and see past the hype; when there are fanboys who'll give 5-stars to every release by a band regardless of its actual quality then we need to temper our initial "wow! that's new and refreshing" with a more seasoned view without having to wait six months (or years) - and that is in the skill of the reviewer.

^I tend to agree, although I myself have been guilty of mis-rating a new album with 5 stars in the past. Basically down to over exuberance on my behalf, but I do go back and change the rating, if I subsequently feel differently about the album. Only happened a few times though
![]() Oh and since we're here: http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=1019015 Calling Clapton a fascist is perhaps a tad strong, even if it's done tongue in cheek...

I prefer to err somewhere in the middle - not go too overboard with either praise or criticism. It takes time for opinions to moderate in either direction but if everybody waited until then, one could never find reviews of new albums to go by. That said, I am not against rating a recently released album 5 on 5 if I cannot convince myself against itself after reasoning it out. But that's rare and I haven't so far done so on the website.

In all honesty, I've never listened to an entire album from DT since Awake. I'll have heard MOST of one, but that's not enough for me to review. Anyhoo, I do agree that it's not our job to promote (though that is goal of mine on The PROG Mind), and I also agree that our opinions change. Sometimes, a 4 -star album moves up a notch, and sometimes vice versa. That happens, and that's why this site let's us change our ratings. I like that very much. For example, though, I just reviewed Haken's new album. Now, I LOVE Haken, and I gave it 5 stars. But this was after listening to it 3-4 times a day for the last few weeks. I've heard it a ton; and, you know what? It's getting better with each listen, still. I think it will be a "classic". I don't see myself changing that, but maybe someday 10 years from now, I will. Who knows? For me, in this part of my life, that album is a masterpiece. Believe me, there have been plenty of albums I've wanted to give 5 stars, but I decided not to do so (such as my recent Mavara review). It really is relative, so I just don't understand how someone could complain, you know? Though, I know I'm still building my review skills, and I hope everyone is patient with me. |
