have to say on recently hearing the new Bowie album
i've never heard so much crap in all my life........drivel of the
highest order.....people are only going on about it as its bowie......if it was anyone else or a newcomer it wouldnt get given the time of day......awful. |
Oh
yeah sure, we're all deluding ourselves because we're irrational Bowie
fans who secretly hate the album but won't admit it because we refuse to
find any fault with what is clearly our personal god.
...or maybe we genuinely like it?

oh i expect a backlash.....already have on another forum.....then again shouldn't do a post asking ones opinion without the risk of something being said against some music you like.
i've had poeple Sl*g off Cardiacs to me face....and i know they are a hard band to digest to most.......so if anyone does Sl*g me fave band off.....doesnt bother me....wont stop me listening to them....same should go the other way.....yeah i respect Bowie and all that but i aint exactly rushing down me local record store to buy it....then again i wouldnt buy it if it was in the bargain bin. |
Judging only from Bowies single, which is a snoozefest of the highest order, I won't be bothering with it. |
It's the only song on the album of that style. The rest is much more rock-oriented.
|
In that case maybe I will check it out

well you might like it......i just think its not very good.......just doesn't do it for me.....the last few albums weren't that great by him.........and i do like Bowie......but more Pre - 1980........just the way some radio stations have been harping on about it the last few weeks it sounded to them like it was amazing.....and its not.....its just average.....and i have heard the whole album twice as i got spotify.....and after those listens nothing stood out at all......so like i say......not rushing out to buy a physical copy.....way much more better stuff out there at the mo.

I tried the album with Lady Fantasy, and could not get anywhere with it, sorry. The experience turned me off the band, unfortunately

What is interesting is progmetaller2112 has nothing to say of some other infinitely more interesting acts (than Camel) in that list, namely, Can, Faust, Neu!.

The only one I don't like on that list is Bowie.

Jazz Rock/Fusion including a chunk of Canterbury stuff (Soft Machine, Gong etc.) Not very keen on Van der Graaf Generator. Magma. Nah. A lot of the modern symph prog bands. Porcupine Tree. Queen. Hendrix. Lots of other offenses, but those are the worst .

I'm with you on the Queen and Hendrix Linus, and on older PT. I do like my Pawn Hearts though.

Not a big Hendrix fan myself. Another band that a lot of prog fans seem to love but that I find almost intolerable is The Doors.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Yeah, the doors didn't really make great albums, though they have some good songs. They have a fantastic compilation called "Weird Scenes in the Gold Mine".....which manages to pull most of their best stuff together and sound like a proper album (unlike most compilations). Unfortunately its on vinyl only.

I have no idea what 'bands prog fans generally like ' but while I like VDGG, I don't care for Hammill's vocals at all. I don't care for most of the prog metal ,death metal , post metal exp or what have you stuff.....it's simply not melodic most of the time but there are exceptions I suppose.

Well, I think that one just have to listen to that music closer, and then melodism would become much clearer. Sometimes it's not easy to start to listen to those kinds of music, but patience would make up everything. For example, I consider Opeth amongst best melodists of our time, though they're playing pretty heavy death metal.

I don't really consder them 'death metal' ....and they do have some melodic songs especially the new cd which is more prog than metal. I'm referring to the loud fast stuff with vocals like they have a bad throat infection ...imo that isn't even really prog.
