I signed up for ReverbNation a couple of years ago, because I had this idea to take an album/band-concept I recorded in the early 90s and present it as a current, anonymous "band", like the Residents. For the band photo I used a psychedelicized photo of me with my daughter. I uploaded just one song (for starters). It was just for a goof, I wanted to see if it might cause a ripple. I haven't really done much with it, and I realized that just signing up for that stuff triggers a whole lot of automated messages soliciting your business. It was never a band in the first place, and had been inactive for 20 years, so it was kind of funny to get these questionable offers to book the band for "pay to play" type concert deals.

I find both soundcloud and reverbnation to be very hard to use, bandcamp basically just gives me what I want. There's still room for improvement, but they're way ahead and I've found some very, very good releases on there.

I noticed that push for extra services when there were about twenty things pushed on me when I signed up.

I like the interactive ability of SoundCloud. I don't find the download capabilities to be limited at all. |
One of the things I noticed with soundcloud is people follow you, but it is obvious most of them do not listen to your music, they want you to follow them back.
However, the comments on the track timeline are a neat feature.
