One of the things I noticed with soundcloud is people follow you, but it is obvious most of them do not listen to your music, they want you to follow them back.

However, the comments on the track timeline are a neat feature.

I noticed that push for extra services when there were about twenty things pushed on me when I signed up.

I find both soundcloud and reverbnation to be very hard to use, bandcamp basically just gives me what I want. There's still room for improvement, but they're way ahead and I've found some very, very good releases on there.

Bandcamp, mainly because it is so incredibly easy to find new music, download it, stream in, and get interested in it. I can go afternoons trying out new bands on bandcamp (Bandcamp discover is great), plus they do a great job with giving exposure to underrated bands. I also love how prices are completely artist regulated. It's just fantastic.

Plus my favourite genres (ambient and post-rock) are very heavily indebted to bandcamp.

^Bandcamp expects uncompressed wave files as uploads reinforcing the finished product impression. While easy to upload they take longer.

^ It's been my personal preferred medium, just because it's so easy, and because I have very few "finished releases".

^you are right about sound cloud, it tends to be a place for ideas rather than finished releases. Not helped by the upload limitation.

Bandcamp is by far the best in my opinion if you want to distribute your band's music, or if you are a consumer looking to listen to or purchase music.   However, as a quick and easy "scrapbook" where I can place works in progress or older recordings I want to share, I prefer Soundcloud.  There are a lot of pieces I like to upload which aren't necessarily the work of my band, nor are pieces I wish to necessarily sell or even distribute, they're just like little musical snapshots of different odds and ends, or perhaps preliminary mixes of songs being worked on.

My band doesn't have a Bandcamp page yet, but we plan to do that once we have enough original recordings "in the can" to present something resembling an album.   Two of the guys in my group already have Bandcamp pages of their own for their solo material (they're much more prolific than I), and they love it.

Really nice poll, and I will go along with Bandcamp here, although I might add that I find the Progstraming website to be an excellent resource.

I agree. From a listener point of view, Bandcamp is the more intuitive and user-friendly of these sites!

^speaking of the 'new' myspace I had a look at it also today, it's not at all intuitive.

Soundcloud would be my second choice.  Reverb Nation feels more like Myspace.

Thanks Finnforrest. While that was my impression, it will be interesting to hear from other people on what makes the other sites good.

I also prefer Bandcamp by a wide margin, same reasons as Infocat, plus it just feels more user friendly.  I don't go to the other two unless I have to.
