FOCUS Debut Track From New Album on Prog Archives

Three weeks from today X, the new album from Dutch progressive rockers FOCUS will be released via Four Worlds Media USA. Featuring cover art by Roger Dean (Yes), the album was produced by the band with a running time just shy of 60 minutes.  It is the first new material from the four-piece in six years. is available for pre-order on Amazon

Today FOCUS has teamed up with Prog Archives for an exclusive North American premiere of a track from X. The song entitled "Father Bacchus" is the first track and can be streamed exclusively http://www.progarchives.com/mp3.asp?id=6184 .

Largely instrumental, (pronounced Ten)expands on the band's traditional base. Jazz, middle eastern, acoustic/adult contemporary and more find their way into the compositions making the album a true must listen for long-time as well new fans. The North American release follows the successful launch of the album overseas; which saw the band on tour supporting the album's initial European release.

FOCUS is regarded as one of the most influential and successful rock bands from The Netherlands.  Founded by keyboardist/flutist Thijs van Leer in 1969, the band have two certified gold recordings in the US spurred on by hits "Hocus Pocus," "House of the King," and "Sylvia."  Thijs van Leer comments, "it is a thrill to have finally completed FOCUS X.  We are all ecstatic about the new material. Our music is evolution, not revolution."

A renewed interest in FOCUS launched a few years back when Nike included the band's music in a commercial for the 2010 World Cup; a piece directed by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (noted for his directorial work on major motion pictures 21 Grams and Babel).  In addition, guitarist Gary Hoey re-recorded the band's "Hocus Pocus;" a recording that rocketed into Billboards' Top 5.

Confirmed track listing for X is:

1. Father Bacchus

2. Focus 10

3. Victoria

4. Amok In Kindergarten

5. All Hens On Deck

6. Le Tango

7. Hoeratio

8. Talk Of The Clown

9. Message Magic

10. CrossRoads

FOCUS is vocalist/flutist/organist Thijs van Leer, drummer Pierre van der Linden, bassist/producer Bobby Jacobs and guitarist Menno Gootjes.  Follow the band at their official site www.focus10.net.

In the Basingstoke branch of HMV last Saturday I held the 140gm vinyl in my hands - it was very nice, that art work was lovely, but it was £28 so I did not buy it.
What?

Just as I had thought. This album is already released. Glad I'm not going mad.

Is it not released in US yet?

Since it was released ion November 5th in Europe according to Focus' website, and has been released in Japan, North Americans could always order it as an import (still can through various places, including Focus' website).  I see at amazon.com that the "import" they were selling is now "out of stock" and I wonder if that is because of the "domestic" Four Worlds Media USA release.  A search has not shown me any indication of a 2012 US release.

By the way, it already has 34 ratings at PA listed, as it should be, as a 2012 release.  A few of the PA staffers reviewed the album before the Nov. 5th release date, I expect using advance copies.

3.69 | 34 ratings X
2012
