Band from Izmir that was active and recorded during the 70's but wasn't capable to release a prog record at the time until this one in 2003. RYM  Discogs   Info  Turkish Wiki

Wow! What a tremendous find this is! Pretty unique-sounding brand of predominantly light & flowery Symphonic Prog. Surely that's where it will end up on the site? Ermm

Yep, interesting music with some tasteful use of the viola. I'm not sure I see this flying in Symphonic though. My first port of call would be Prog Folk due to what are undoubtedly some local Turkish influences. Actually, this reminds me a bit of Spanish band Ibio, which is in Prog Folk. Nonetheless, will ask the Symph Team to give it the once over to see what they think.

I just received Seventhsojourn's suggestion in the CS a coup´le hours ago

This what i think

New suggestion in the forum. Turkish band from the seventies, instrumental music with viola added to usual array of electric instruments. Some interesting stuff but sound quality is not so good. Not sure if it's one for Symph but your thoughts would be appreciated. Smile

Hi Seventhsojourn:

Don’t apologize; there’s somebody from the team here, so I can check the band which I found hallucinating and quite interesting.

I like to use some methodology to search, so the first thing I did was to check everything about the band:

Quote GEPR: This is a band from Izmir, Turkey which existed between 1973-1980 and was responsible for an incredible style of Symph-prog being influenced by such wide sources as Turkish folk to Stravinsky and from Psychedelia to King Crimson. At the time, they weren't able to release their music on vinyl so they were completely unknown. [Recently] a new label took matters into hands and released their long lost previously unreleased album on vinyl and CD.

http://www.gepr.net/to.html#21PERON

Also found them in another site that I don’t trust (They used to provide illegal downloads) but it’s a reference

Quote PrognotFrog: The Izmir College band was started in 1970 highly influenced by Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and even performed Tommy at some schoolshows back in 1972. They won the Milliyet contest in 1973 with a self written tune. After that the group members changed, (due to graduating), included a viola player and renamed their group into '21.Peron'. Their influences expanded and included Zappa, Genesis and Gentle Giant, with still sympathy for the Anadolu rock which they continued to develop. In 1974 they did a progrock jingle for a national radio show by Ümit Tunçag who supported jazz and progressive music. By 1975 they moved to an instrumental style of music with some Yes and Genesis influences, which was respected but hard to understand for the (Turkish) public.

Sites as Proggnosis don’t mention them, but I’m sure they are Prog and belong in Prog Archives

Now my opinion: I listen mainly Heavy Prog with folk and Symphonic strong references, 100% Prog by the way

My Conclusion: Not sure if they are Symphonic, IMHO sound more suitable for

  1. Heavy Prog
  2. Eclectic
  3. Folk
  4. Psyche/Symphonic

In this order

But I won’t reject 21. Peronwill only delay their addition until Eclectic and Folk Team check them, if this band is not accepted by any team, I will fight for their inclusion in Symphonic, and knowing my teammates, I’m almost sure they will be accepted if the alternative is to reject them from Prog Archives.

Iván

They will be added, if not in Heavy, Eclectic or Folk, most likely in Symphonic.

Iván

Thanks Iván. Did you get a chance to have a quick listen to this band yet to see if it might fit in symphonic? If deemed not suitable I will take to Crossover for the initial eval. Thumbs Up

Yes, I heard them and yes, they are Symphonic, but also Folk, Psyche and mainly Heavy Prog.

No they are not Crossover, they are far too elaborate.

We shouldn't send a band to every team just to be added,  clearly this guys exceed the boundaries of Crossover, Heavy and Eclectic have the first option....Just have a bit of patience

If Eclectic and Heavy Prog say no, we'll take 'em gladly.

Iván

Thank you Iván.

Edit: The above question was actually about the band Hidden Lands, (thread hyperlink is concealed beneath the word this), a band which was suggested by me in this forum 12 hours or so before 21. Peron arrived here. It appears that the in the answer given here, the assumption was that I was still referring to 21. Peron when I asked the question, which was not the case. This has now all been sorted out, and 21.Peron are being considered by Eclectic (with one positive comment in their thread so far) and Hidden Lands will almost certainly be evaluated by Crossover (after Fritz and Scott have both run their ear over the samples).

Just thought I'd clear that up. Embarrassed

So, with two votes, 21. Peron is almost accepted (A 3 men teqam needs 3 votes according to the rules) but in standby until Eclectic and Heavy check them

I just received Fritz vote for this band

If rejected by Eclectic and Heavy 21. Peron is already pre-approved inn Symphonic.

Will be added to Symphonic in order to have a Prog band here.

If another team wants them, we can move them.

There was one vote in eclectic to move for symphonic so there's a chance they would end up there anyway. Don't forget about this page that has a lot of info about them in english.

As any decent obsessive compulsive, I couldn't wait. LOL

They are already in Symphonic

The album data was a nightmare, most was in a different alphabet that turned into a mess when added to PA

We don't know who played in the album, so I have to add all the members because the album contains music from all their career

We had two trouble additions this week, Sphinx and 21. Peron

But both are already added

Iván
