Well once again FLOYD should take this but for me it's between that Laurent Thibault album pr the POPOL VUH record which is my favourite from them. I'll vote later on.

Hard to choose between Pink Floyd and Ozric Tentacles, but Strageitude holds some of the most unique instrumentals ever. I love my Ozric Tentacles.

Three albums I would vote for: UZ, TD and PF...but Atom Heart Mother has been one of my intros to prog music. I have discovered the others later.

Ooooo...now this is getting tricky.
Tops for me are Masal, Tangerine Dream, Ozrics, Present, and UZ. I"m going to have to think this over.

Atom Heart Mother is my favorite album by my third favorite band (any genre) of all time, so this was an easy choice. However, quite a lot of excellence on this list. To wit:
Present - I just learned about this album last week after Salty Jon reminded me of the wonders of Present, and I started looking back to see albums I'd missed. I was excited to see that this is a live album featuring the live set supporting the Certitudes album, a live show I was fortunate to see (for their only US tour, I think) at a small Atlanta bar, one of the most intense things I've ever seen. I'll jump at the chance to hear that again. Laurent Thibault - just a lovely lovely album that I've loved for years. I once took it to a friend's house and left it there, and it got lost and was never recovered. It became a running joke between us, like Jimmy Hoffa. A few years later it came back in print and I bought a new copy. Ozric - I'm not all that familiar with most of their stuff, but this is one of the albums i recall pretty fondly, mainly for the rockin' White Rhino Tea, one of the few songs of theirs I can recall by name. Popol Vuh - I really wish I liked these guys more, because there seems to be one of their albums in every poll

Atom Heart Mother is a classic but I would like to vote for Laurent Thibault. Such an incredible light Zehulic album. I was always curious why he never released another album?!
EDIT: Try this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjHbxx6AY_Y Edited by sagichim - December 29 2012 at 13:05 |

^ Great to see Laurent Thibault get some love from Sagi and Steve. He was a bass player in Magma before they released an album. Fracois Moze replaced him and he guests on this album. Amanda Parsons from Hatfield And The North and National Health sings on the first track. Laurent started his own label after leaving Magma and also produced albums including Magma's Attahk record.
By the way guys sorry for being lax on this poll but i've had to close down my store which has been a huge under-taking and i've been going to the dump a lot and moving suff home etc. All done now but the next step is getting a job.

^ Sorry to hear that! Can't imagine the difficulty of that transition. Best of luck finding a new job. Hopefully things are better in Canada than they are in the US on the job front.

I think that's why I like it so much. I like big band jazz and Zeuhl so it seemed like a natural to me. I'll have to look for that Thibault album. |

Get a job in a lax office and blast the prog and you'll keep getting people's opinions about it. ![]() But seriously, that does suck. :( Sounds like you were living the dream! Glad you didn't go bankrupt though. Seems like tough times all around for the independent record stores. Fairly reflective of the general culture I fear. I'll be sure to hug mine a little harder next time. And at least your optimistic. You have a fair amount of business experience under your belt so hopefully that will help you. Keep that positive attitude! They say it makes the difference. ![]() |
