as far as the way i use those words they have different meanings. I can definitely say I dislike something but that I can still see the potential appeal it could hold to someone else. If i say I hate something it's very unlikely I could admit it has merits for another's perspective.

which makes them the" Holy Sextity" while Rush is the "Holy Trinity", now do you get it if Rush had assistance from other musicians you guys would all probably have massive chubbies ![]() ![]() ![]() While I applaud the added musicians and instruments that Crimson has had over the years it's much more difficult to be organic and interesting with just Guitar, Bass, and Drums, Keyboards.get my drift |

Organic means to stay closer to nature and in this case closer to rock music which means the use of basic instruments.Guitar, Bass, Drums are essential to Prog Rock are they not? ![]() |

considering most people's tastes are quite simple, i would say it's easier to keep people entertained with just a basic set up. Think to what happened when Gentle Giant opened for Black Sabbath...
as well, I don't think how basic or complex a band's musical set up matters all too much, it's about composition. Some bands make amazing music with basic equipment, some bands make terrible music with very high-end equipment. Rush are not the only band to choose to stick to a more basic set-up, and I don't see why they should be given special attention for doing so. If anyone deserves mention for something like that I would nominate The Doors. Some of the most inventive and unique compositions and with just a keyboards, drums, guitar and vocal set up. Well, it's an inappropriate usage then because you are using a word that's too strong for what you want to convey. You basically want to say, "Meh, I don't really like it all that much". That's not synonymous with "I dislike it"; the key here is "meh". Besides, whether you dislike/hate something or don't has nothing to do with a willingness to acknowledge another's perspective. I hate Christina Aguilera but I am not going to ask somebody who enjoys listening to her to turn off the music...not my business and very impolite if I do so.

It's very hard to believe from these words that you have ever properly listened to Wetton-KC or the THRAK album. KC at their heaviest is way heavier, way more crushing than Rush. Further, flutes and saxophones are more organic than distorted heavy guitar and loud drums.

i guess we differ in our personalities then? If I hate something that means I feel a negative passion towards it and probably cannot tolerate it well. If i dislike something that means I simply don't care for it and it's not my thing, but in the end I don't care about it more than I care to not like it. either way I think this is a very minor thing to nitpick, and would also like to point out that I am from the San Francisco Bay Area, where we're hella cool and make our own dialects! ^^yeah i wanted to point that out too haha, 'organic' music wouldn't use any sort of synthetic sounds or electronic amplificaiton, so I don't know how Rush are more organic than Crimson Edited by Sumdeus - December 12 2012 at 20:11 |

King Crimson, who have made one of my favorite albums (Larks' Tongues in Aspic), several great ones (In the Court of the Crimson King, Islands, Red, Discipline) and a good number great songs on the albums I don't like as much.I haven't listened to any of their post-80s output, however.
As for Rush, I only ever bought four of their albums (2112, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Moving Pictures). They all have their good aspects, but only Moving Pictures would I consider great. They strike me as a band who embellish very simple songs with very complex arrangements, which can make for some supremely catchy songs when it works well and sound kind of strange when it doesn't. I like all the individual sub-songs in "2112", but they don't have enough of a grandiose feel to form a particularly convincing suite. Oh, and a lot of their lyrics on those late-70s albums are supremely awful. Then again, the same holds true for many King Crimson lyrics. Edited by HarbouringTheSoul - December 13 2012 at 03:29 |

^You may want to listen to some of their 80's, 90's and 00's output. It's more concise, and the lyrics are better (for the most part).
Oh, get Permanent Waves too, it's similar to Moving Pictures. |
