Just upload some Mp3s (128 bit rate) to an uploading site and PM me the link. Files must be in format: Artist - Album - Tr No - Title

I could be crazy, but it looks like a bug has reentered the ranking system. All of a sudden there's been a crop of new albums showing up, and then disappearing again, near the top of the rankings.
For example, # 13 (Wonderous - A Tribute to Yes) suddenly showed up on the list a couple of weeks ago. Then, after a couple of days, it disappeared again. Now it's back.
I don't remember ever seeing #14 (O Terco) on the list before.
Number #17 is also new (The London Philharmonic Orchestra perform the best known works of Rick Wakeman)
Has there been a change in the rating system, or have people been voting strangely over the last week?

Actually, I should add why I care about a sudden change in the ratings.
Every pay day I go through the list and find the "next" album that I don't own. I then add it to my library. If there's a glitch in the system, then I end up loosing a two weeks.
(No, it's not an issue of a new album with a lot of initial high votes. I can understand Steven Wilson's album starting high on the list, my buying it, and it slowly dropping down the list. I enjoyed the album, but it's probably dropping off the top hundred soon.)

This has nothing to do with the chart or the ratings system. It is the work of a single person who is creating dozens of accounts to manipulate the ratings. Read more here: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=28343&PID=4465022#4465022 The admin are hoping to resolve the matter, but at the present, they are unable to do so.
I used to do the same thing, but when it comes to buying new albums, the reviews are more helpful than the ratings. Find a few reviewers with similar tastes as yours, and check out their member page to see a list of their reviews. |

One of the reasons I was going through the list was discovering stuff that I had never heard before, in a variety of different styles. Given how the ratings have now been screwed, probably permanently, by these idiots, I don't see anything to gain anymore.
So, to all the bands who's albums I would have bought, sorry. I'll check back occassionally to see if the lists have gone back to normal. But until then, I guess I'll be saving some money.

Maybe I am odd, but it was only the first year or so that I found this list useful. Then I ventured out past the confines of albums with less than a 100 ratings and haven't really looked back since. I hope that the list gives some sort of help to those who are totally new and inexperienced in prog, but to those of us who have been listening for years on end should preferably have gone beyond any lists- and created our own preferences and tastes unrelated to popular opinion - or perhaps the exact same thing. But hey that's just me.

If you need some list to discover great new music, you're doing something wrong. Some of the best music ever made isn't anywhere close to being on that list, you just need to put some effort into your search by reading reviews (and as Rob said, finding reviewers you agree with).
There's sort of a defeatist attitude in your post, and a statement you're going to take this out on the bands, both of which are pretty silly reactions to this problem.

Use the filter functions. Including the one between the ears.
I check out the current year lists at least weekly. If an album I'm not familiar with maintains its position I'm likely to check it out. But the collaborator lists are better for that.
Found the wonderful I A MOON that way last year. Finally made myself listen to Ihsahn the year before that and liked it much better than I thought I would.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Just check the 100 albums list and if there are hardly any reviews and just ratings move on to the next album. an album on the list with hardly any reviews is not worth pursuing as someone is just manipulating the system .... temporarily I might add.

Hi Friends. What about Harvest "Chasing Time". I think it is one of the best albums of this year.

This is a very strange list and makes very little sense. I dont care how scientific the survey claims to be. Emerson Lake and Palmer first appear at number 71? There is no coherent definition of prog rock that would not include at least one ELP album in the top 10, and most of their albums in any top 100 list. I was there in the '70s (well, mostly there).
And why is Miles Davis Kind of Blue at 25? One of the greatest albums of all time, of any style of music, no question about it. But it is definitely not progressive rock. Miles would turn over in his grave to hear of it. |

Not to belabor the point, but I think Miles would care. He was very opinionated about music and his place in music history. Read his autobiography. I dont think he would appreciate Kind of Blue being classified as prog rock.

The problem is that here at PA we don't have multi genre album/artist tagging, like they have on our sister sites JMA and MMA. Therefore all Miles Davis albums gets tagged as Jazz Rock/Fusion, even though some of them, like Kind Of Blue, are not.

Can someone explain to me why Focus III appears not even among the top 100 in the Netherlands?
