I just updated iTunes to version 11 and just about had a heart attack when all of my playlists had disappeared. Fortunately, I found them, otherwise some heads were going to have to roll.
I'm still learning the new layout too. I hated it at first but it's slowly making sense.
I have to be honest. I think that it sucks. It makes using playlists extremely difficult. There does not seem to be an easy way to add a song to a playlist since you can just click and drag like you used to be able to do.

I hadn't updated iTunes in a long time, because back when I still did literally every single version was worse than the previous one. But then one day I had to reinstall windows, and got stuck with version 10

Windows 8 looks strange. Too different and modern. Why can't they just keep the standard Windows format? They're trying too much to pander to the modern, hip crowd. Leave that to Apple.

Actually you can still do that. When you're in the playlist, click the "add to" button in the top right of the screen, and the rest of your library will pop up, allowing you to drag songs to the playlist.

I set up each of my albums as a playlist, so I have over 5000 playlists. You have to scroll through all 5000 playlists in order to add it to the playlist that I want to add it to.

Ah. So this does throw a bit of a wrench in things.

They really need to fix it so that you can do copy and paste or cut and paste like you can in Microsoft programs. It is a real pain to move playlists into folders.
I probably just need to change the way that I use it and rely more on their artist function. I essentially manually did it by adding folders and playlists and I guess that I could probably get a way with deleting them all and using theirs. I just don't like how they sort artist names by first name instead of last name.

I find it easier to find things that way. It is easier to scroll through album titles or folders than each individual song. I have a folder for each letter of the alphabet and then each band with that letter is included in that folder. I have individual folders within each letter for bands with 3 or more albums that I own.
With the "artist" function it lists each artist but you have to scroll through all of the artists to get to the artist that you want. Granted, you can type the first couple of lettters and get closer, but more scrolling is involved.
I think that it is really more of a what I am used to thing.

I only have the Zune software but I can just type out the name and go to it, I got a skin for foobar2000 that makes it similar to that and it seems to work okay.
