And there are, for example, new ELP editions with new stereo and multichannel mixes by Steven Wilson. When I saw this review: http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=828022 I added 2CD+DVD info to ELP debut's page: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=1862. I still doubt it was a good decision, perhaps it would be better to make a separate entry. But, from the other hand, it's the same music with some alternate takes. New 2CD+DVD edition would look strange everywhere - in Studio albums or in Compilations.

Since the database is expanded by users, and we come across additions made a long time ago too by members that are hard to remove, a failsafe option might be to add a database sorting line simply to be called "Reissues". And place all such productions there. And to avoid misuse, have albums entered there hidden in the discography by default, and reviews made to them not to appear on the frontpage.
The thing about reissues is that they are reissues, no matter how expanded or altered they are. There are a few cases around of an entire album recorded anew, and those are just about the only ones that should be allowed in as a new entry. Edited by Windhawk - October 20 2012 at 00:08 |

First of all, only M@X can do this. And it does not solve the problem. Anyway we have to think whether some reissue is different enough to have a separate entry. What's enough to call it "reissue"? 2 bonus tracks? Multichannel mix? 1 or several extra discs?
I strongly disagree. Why hide them in discography? And, again, it needs M@X to implement the feature (collapse/expand the section). I see no reason not to appear reviews on the frontpage. Why reviews of some MySpace (or whatever) singIes of aspiring bands should be here while, for instance, Floyd Immersion box sets not?
I think they are equally important. Especially for those who want to decide which edition of the album to buy.

Ok. Then I'll get to the job of adding in all 800 or so different editions of Pink Floyd's discography that I know of. Thanks for your sign of approval to this addition to the database and expansion of the database policies.

I think a "new edition" is different from a reprint. This would make the number of dark sides of the moon fall from 25 to 4. Also including all the boxsets and editions, the total number of Pink Floyd albums is less that the official releases only of Senmuth.

All re releases and new editions should be added to the current release.
But we do need a more flexible system. And singles and Eps should be seperated from where they currently are.

But what should one do when that isn't the case. The reported item earlier on is one of about a dozen of similar releases by the same label. If one of them merits an entry in the database of it's own, so should all the additional items in the same series. All of them are set up in the exact same manner. And if they are to be included, where do you draw the line next in the plethora of definitive, classic, enhanced, remastered, reworked, regrouped, diamond, gold, silver, bronze, platinum, anniversary, bonus, special, extra special, de luxe and so on ad infinitum releases? We have 38.000 or so albums in the database right now, which would easily swell to 100.000 if these various more or less enhanced versions of previously released material with minor or major additions in the shape of extra material / new mix / enhanced production each are to be given an extra slot. If there is a need to add these new versions of previously released albums in as separate database entries then the floodgates needs to be opened. If not, they need to remain shut. If site policies aren't acted upon, they are worthless. The case in question doesn't even present a new scenario, it's one of many in a long ongoing series by a label, and a type of production that we have seen a plethora of for decades. That the series in question sports a few more bells and whistles than the average variety doesn't transform them into something else, just more of the same old. That we have past and current artists that are fairly productive (as pointed out by others) is besides the point really. I can't remember seeing too many complaints about all the productions by John Zorn for instance. Edited by Windhawk - October 20 2012 at 12:26 |

^ Already reported to Easy Livin.
As well as these ones: I'm thinking of giving special PA magic prog spectacles to those who does not look at the artist's page before adding albums.

http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=333 this one needs to be deleted http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=38928 although it has more complete song titles but wrong track durations |
