Indeed awesome for Kam. Been outpaced by Perez but glad he's still having strong results. I can't see him staying up there but hopefully a good point finish will be in order.
Wow, Mercedes really seems to have fallen off the pace

Wow!

Well I was waiting for it with dread and it finally happened, an Alonso DNF and most of his lead is wiped out.
Congrats to Vettel, but uber kudos to Massa, first podium in 2 full years and Kam his first ever podium! Awesome top 3. Clap

I'd have to say thats a much harder earned podium for Kam than any of Perez's three (not to take anything away from him, they were all well earned). It s the first time that a Sauber has gone toe-to-toe all race in the dry on equal strategy with McLaren and come out as the victor.

Bad luck for Alonso but he was squeazing Raikkonen off the track.

Agreed with all, helluva drive.

Sadly I passed out around lap 7ish, (now that I work i struggle to stay up late but have no issue with the 7 am races nowLOL)
What happened with Webber? Why did he finish 9th and why has be been so off the mark in general?

Yay Vettel win combined with Alonso flub!

Great to see Kam make it to the podium on his home soil. Decent race all around.

I'm surprised you missed it, Grosjean was at it again. He was so busy trying to keep ahead of Perez that he speared into the right rear of Webber and spun him around. Luckily he got goint again but was at the back after the safety car came in, and was probably a long way behind the queue as well.

Near the start?
I'll be honest when I say I made it to lap 7 I was about 10% conscious LOL

Well sh*t! Grosjean really has a case of the oopsy knickers.

Yeah, on the way into turn 2 on the first lap, whilst Alono was spinning out.

Ahhhhh rally. I remember when it used to be on TV. I also remember a time when Loeb didn't win the title.
Many a year ago!

It's such a small knit group, feels kinda like he's just beating up on the same few people. But it's motorsports soooo:
Congrats Sebastian Loeb to your 9th straight WRC title.

I think the closest he's come to not winning was when he was inured and had to miss 4 races. Still no one could take it away from himLOL

Yep, it's his 9th straight, and final, World Rally Championship. He hasnt been beaten over a year since Petter Solberg won in 2003 for Subaru, though Gronholm came closs a couple of times and Hirvonen in 2009. He's already anounced hell only do a part season next, and I expect he'll spend the rest of the time racing for his LMP2 squad at Le Mans.

It's thought that Citreon could join the World Touring Car Championship in 2014 with Loeb as their main driver.

Such a famous name, I'll be very sorry to see it go.

Yup, 2003 was the first year I ever saw rally. And the last I saw a non loeb title! Can't even believe that.
I was a fan of Markko Martin myself. Sad end to his career.

Needless to say I also enjoyed Gronholm or any Finn that had success. Thankfully for me Rally was filled with Finns and Scandinavians.
Wow, last Loeb title. I always wondered how long before he got boredLOL

Excellent front row lock out by red bull...but Webber on poll!!

Also, a seperate issue for us Americans. Anyone watching quali, specfically the Q3? I missed the first few minutes but when I turned it back on it sounded like the commentators were almost saying goodbye. Did speed not renew the contract to show the races? Or is speed getting a new group of commentators for next year? Or some other scenario my sleep deprived mind can't think of?

Oooh, first 5am start of the year for me with F1.Sleepy

Great poll for Webber, but Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso and Raikkonen are all very close behind on pace, should make for an interesting race. And I wouldn't count out Button "doing a Perez" tomorrow either.

Nutty start but things settled after that.
Pretty standard top 7 but wow! The 2 toro rosso's get all the way up to the points.

Barring some true madness looks like this is going to be a fight between Alonso and Vettel now, and surely going to the last lap I bet.
Gotta give Vettel credit, he is clutch. Always seems to pull out all the stops at seasons end. Alonso needs to be at his absolute best. Ooor Vettel will just win all the final races giving him zero chance LOL which can realistically happen

Two things struck me at the start. The top six (Vettel, Alonso, Webber, Hamilton, Massa and Raikkonen) racing down to turn 3 and then 4, slipstreaming each other centermeters apart and never touching, hard but fair racing. It was absolutley thrilling to watch, particulary the overhead camera shot which showed just how close they got to each other.

The other was the moments of madness from the Sauber drivers, Perez first outbraking himself into turn 1 and hitting Hulkenberg whilst forcing Button and Rosberg off track, the Kamui going kamakazi on the pair into turn 3, which as Button said was "a bit special". Considering Kobayashi doesnt normally make these kinds of mistakes it was very surprising.

Unlucky for Hamilton, rear anti-roll bar broke ruining his podium chances, and nice to see Massa driving like its 2008 again, it's thought he'll be confirmed for another year at Ferrari in a couple of days. A few weeks ago that would have really anoyed me, but if he keeps driving like that then it'll be well deserved.

I'm still kinda annoyed but honestly it's less about Massa now and just Ferrari's silliness (well documented in past posts).
He has really been driving well though. He's been a very solid driver the last few years, but that's it. Still think there's better drivers out there deserving of a chance but if in 2013 he can challenge for some wins and get more regular podiums I will take back all I've said.
