Topic: Prog drummers? Posted: September 09 2012 at 05:25 |
Hello there drummers. Great to find out people interested in the progressive music scene at such young ages. When I was 15 years of age, I just knew about Backstreet Boys, Bryan Adams and Eminem lol. If you guys want some good learning practise, I would suggest you guys to try looking into these bands 1)Mahavishnu orchestra (Jazz Instrumental. Crazy band. Crazy drummer) 2)Jethro Tull (Although they are more Anderson influenced, their drumming is top notch and true progressive. Especially, the drumming in Thick as a Brick. I feel that is the best drumming anyone would have done in the rock scene around 1972. Barrie is awesome) 3)The Mars Volta 4)Yes (Good drumming if you want to strengthen your positioning or feel or rhythm) 5)Of course, our very own Rush.
My progressive experience started with Opeth (I was a die hard metalhead) and from there, its more and more experimentation. I am never satisfied with anything and the urge to explore more makes me work harder. :)

Nice nice work with Robbery Assault and Battery.
Really tough song for a drummer.

Welcome! You're pretty good. I also play drums, still a newbie though, but you're much better than me.

I watched your "Carry on My Wayward Son" cover. Very solid! You're very good for your age.

You have a lot of covers there, I just listened to The Creation and Natural Sciene and they are fantastic, congratulations!
I'm not a drummer myself although I have drummed a bit for fun, I wish I had had the will to practice and reach half of your level. My main instrument was guitar and even on that I never reached very high but I had some fun

Welcome aboard, always great to see other drummers around here. Like Horizons said you should really give The Mars Volta a listen (especially their first three albums) Jon Theodore is insane!

Yes, I finally have the dream experience of being a part Prog Archives! Where do I start?
Well, my name is ProgDrummerTony, and I'm a 15-year-old hoping to one day play professionally in the world of prog rock. I've been working the drum set for several years since learning about Rush and other prog bands. There's certainly something about prog rock that keeps me glued to it, and I'm pretty sure the "sensation" will never go away at this point. With each passing day it's becoming easier to understand the polyrhythms I'm hearing, which must be a good sign. I think I've making some good PROGress in my drumming, and you can tell me what you think of my covers. I'd sure like some feedback on them.
Any other prog drummers out there willing to share their experiences?
