I'm not a horsey person but historically eventing has a much better argument to be an Olympic sport than Baseball.  And there really does need to be a few more countries playing it than at the moment.  Cricket was in the first modern Olympics and moore countries play than Baseball, but its not included.

I suppose it is only a matter of time before Texas Hold 'Em becomes an Olympic event.

Baseball is quite popular in the Americas; North, Latin, and South American countries all play baseball; and I know it is also popular in Korea and Japan.  I know that there have been a couple of players from Australia in the Major Leagues too, but not sure how popular it is there.  It just doesn't seem to be popular with the rest of the world.  Cricket is pretty much nonexistent here, although I do recall seeing some guys playing it in the parking lot at my college.  I believe that they were all of Indian or Pakistani descent though.

Yeah, it was probably 50/50 before the final, but it doesn't look too good for him now.
OK, so he lost the final, but taking silver in a sport Norway never have won a Olympic medal in before, and that from a 47th place on the world ranking, is just simply fantastic! Congratulations, Bartosz!Clap

The final was probably a too high a fence for him to climb, but I bet the Norwegian people are proud of him nonetheless, even though most of us probably hadn't heard of him before today. I hadn't, but I'm proud as peacockBig smile This is huge for a winter sport country like ours. Just as huge as our cycling bronze medal on Saturday.

^ Haha. I'm surprised they threw it so obviously. And that they thought they could get away with it.

Also, congrats to Gabby Douglas on becoming the all around champion in women's gymnastics. And another gold medal for Phelps...one event to go for him.

Track and field starts tomorrow, track cycling just began, water polo tourney is turning out pretty exciting, and ditto for handball. Should be a very good second week.

Bit of a slow day...though some very nice swimming from the US team. and sadly soccer and tennis seem like they are going to dominate coverage during the day so I'm not expecting much from tomorrow. At least track and field will start to heat up soon.

Food for thought: What Olympic event would you look the worst in? Tongue

Hmm...if we are talking strickly looks, then water polo. Wink If we are talking doing stuff...hard call. I can't run, so any of those running events I'd be terrible in. Water polo is incredably physical, I'd probably be drowned. Whitewater kayaking may work, though I'd completely miss all the gates and probably flip over at some point. Any of the distance things (marathon, triatholon, long bike races, etc) would also go poorly.

Basically, I'm probably the furthest from anyone here from being an olympian. LOLTongueOuch

Also, swimming finished with another gold for Phelps. 22 medals total. Damn.

Track & field really gaining steam now. Individual apparatuses in gymnastics start tonight. Women's water polo starts elimination play today. Track cycling still going strong...second week starting well.

Subjective opinion: Michael Phelps is the greatest athlete ever. I can't think of anyone else who's dominated their sport to such a degree as him.

Objective opinion: If you made a list of the 100 greatest athletes ever, you would have to include him on that list somewhere.

Probably anything other than swimming and water polo. I'm one of the most uncoordinated people I've ever seen play sports. I swam competitively for about 10 years, so if I trained hard enough and got somewhat lucky, I could have a chance there. And water polo I would definitely have the endurance for. But everything else would be a laugh fest. LOL

Indeed. What a beast. I'm glad I can remember his run.
