Somewhat shocked with that upset in the 400 free relay by the French. Especially given all the hype this year with Phelps and Lochte. But then again, they did to our team what our team did to them in Beijing in the same event, so I guess they got their revenge in the end.

Yeah Lochte kinda disappointed there. Oh well. For some reason I'm not a huge fan of him.

Also, I wish NBC cut all of the opening ceremony sans the opening 20-25 mins, the torch lighting, and parade of nations.

I was disappointed, but man, what a great race.
What really disappointed me today was Jordyn Wieber's elimination from the all-around gymnastics competition. I Thought they scored her kind of low on the floor routines, not that I'm familiar with the scoring system or anything, just going on how it looked to me.

^ Definitely (on your last point). I was rooting for her.also I do think the only 2 people from each country rule is a bit blah. The top 24 should go, even if that means 10 of them are from Romania.

Well a girl I went to grade school (and who might be a future Olympian) met him at Olympic Trials last year. Apparently he has a reputation for being a cocky, arrogant d-bag. Although the fact he uses cocaine probably doesn't help with that either.

Not surprised. Frankly, he looks it. And acts like it, at least from the bits and pieces they show on tv. And of course he doesn't medal again tonight in the 200 free. My my...
And good luck to your friend...it'd be cool to know an olympian in real life.

Well, incredible GB win Silver in mens gymnastics ! Having not been in finals for years and years! Yay
Oh well Bronze but still incredible for us!
Yeah, that was pretty crazy what happened there. I don't know if it counts as a controversy, but it certainly doesn't help. I'm not that well read on gymnastics but I don't think I'd count what the japanese guy did as a handstand.

I don't think, from what I know, that it is a controversy. I wouldn't want to make it one as it really is such a brilliant achievement to get Bronze.
It was due to the Japanese gymnast not being given points for his (attrocious) dismount. And thems the rules! So, no controversy.
The controversy is the US coach accusing the Chinese swimmer 16 yrs of cheating. It was only a matter of time!

Did you guys see the 15 year old Lithuanian girl (can't remember, pronounce, or spell her name) win the 100M women's breaststroke? What a race that was.

I know I need to brush up on my gymnastics, but if what he did was technically a handstand (by whatever definition the judges use to judge those things) than yes...no controversy at all. I'm not calling it a controversy...just was a very strange ending to me. But yes congrats to your brits!
