What obscure album do you think is most deserving of prog fame? My vote: Citizen Cain "Somewhere But Yesterday," probably the best symphonic prog album of the 90s. 4.9 stars out of 5, based on 10 ratings, here on progarchives. |

Check out Ark. Both their first album the self-titled Ark and Burn the Sun. Ark mix elemts of progressive metal, heavy metal, jazz, spanish.....anything. Jørn Lande has arguebly the best voice in the genre. Very varied vocal indeed. The drummer John Macaluso is hugely underrated in my opinion, he is just as good as Mike Portnoy. If anyone know other bands except of TNT where Macaluso plays the drums please let me know. |

If the minds of prog metal fans made any sense, Focus by Cynic would be worshipped above any Dream Theater release.

kirklott: Although I agree re Citizen Cain, my choice would be "Playing Dead," which is one of the best "unknown" albums I've heard. Also on that list would be Carptree's "Superhero" - another lesser-known gem. Peace. |

I totally agree. from progressive metal: everything from psychotic waltz, mind over four, the first two prg albums from fates warning (no exit and perfect symmetry), everything from sieges even (especialy steps and a sense of change), focus from cynic, and dimension hatross-nothingface-phobos from voivod. |

Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart. Frank's Wild Years by Tom Waits (not nearly as popular as the other two albums in the concept trio, (raindogs, and swordfish trombones), incredibly unlistenable, absolutely terrifying, and a pure masterpeice.). Acid Mother's Temple- LA NOVIA Adelaide (self titled album from unknown ambient post rock group should be heard by all!! Some of the most relaxing and euphoric minimalist rock ever created!! Honestly, everyone should hear this stuff, and support the group if possible. here is a link to some mp3's, i strongly suggest you listen. please pm me and tell me what you think, and maybe ill be able to set you up with a copy of the album. Totally agree but I would say the WHOLE Citizen Cain catalogue (YES, even Raising the Stones, which I think is the MOST underrated of all thier albums even among die-hard Cain fans. The melodies and complexity mix so perfectly on that album!) |

I agree to a point. Even though they were not as known as Yes, Genesis and ELP, they are VERY well known, in general, in the prog community while Citizen Cain is not. |
