I don't understand why people are saying Storm Corrosion sounds like ambient, I'm still on the first track but so far it doesn't strike me as particularly ambient. Low key, but not ambient.

Alan, you might like this album. It has some of the bleeps and bloops of electronic prog.
Avant-jazz album available for free download. http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Balogh/none_given_1898/

This is true. It is funny to see a doctor's personal financial statement. Nice house. Nice cars. Nice boat. Investments - None. |

Hm this thread is still alive? I'll keep it going. I haven't forgotten how I was betrayed when I made a new shred after four or five hundred pages, yet it got shot down and was replaced by another new one after a couple of days.

We were told to stop using it by Dean, he said it'd be closed last weekend but it didn't happen I guess. |

But why did he say to stop using it? I thought these threads can now go up to 1600 pages. I could understand stopping it at 1000 or something, but if the thread hasn't even reached half of it's potential, why start another one so prematurely?

Because they don't want two Shreds at once, since Tanner made a new one we needn't continue use of the old. Take it up with Tanner for creating the new thread :P

I understand the 2 shreds at once thing, I mean, why start a new shred when you can continue the current one for another 1000 pages? I mean this in general, this has been happening to every shred for a while now.

I dunno, people have been doing that for a while now. It used to be customary to wait for it to be closed and then open a new thread, but people keep wanting to make them I guess. We had one instance where three new ones were made after one was closed.

LOL
Well whatever, I wasn't really trying to make a big stink about it, I was being mildly sarcastic when I bumped this one. But I'll keep this alive on principle until it gets closed (or if no one participates). |

I would just assume keep this thread alive until it gets buggy. It would be nice to see how far it can go.

Whoever decided to open a new one did so at their own volition and without an Admin telling them too. I suggested you stop using the old one once a new one has been made - that would be the logical thing to do. I seldom tell anyone to do or not to do anything, because if there is one thing I've learnt in the past 56 years is that when you tell people to do something they invariably do the diametric opposite.
I don't see why an Admin has to lock these f_____g things just to stop you using them, it's not in my job description and I'm not at your beck and call. Just stop using the old one - it's not rocket science - enough threads die-on-their-feet around here without them being locked, people just stop posting in them.
People bitch about concentration of power, bullying Admins, dictator mindsets, hidden posts, locked threads, micromanaged moderation, "fear" of suspension and perceived pettiness... then moan because there are two Shreds and the old one hasn't been locked!? wtf?
Personally I don't see the point of locking them at 500 or 1000 pages - I don't believe it slows down the server response time because the "This page was generated in" message doesn't show a significant increase for longer threads and we know the pages didn't go screwy until the post-count hit 32,768 - which is 1,638.2 pages - and that was on earlier versions of the Web-wiz forum software so that bug could be fixed for all we know. But not all Admins see it that way, so that's why I said Bob would probably lock the old one, he didn't, and I won't.

Well I wasn't mad, just making some observations. Since there are no actual 'topics' in these threads, it doesn't make sense to start a new one at an arbitrary point like say, 500 pages in.
