Yes, I had put a Symphony X album in my list and so I typo-ed when I got to Epica.
It's hard to pick a top ten. I just went with my first instinct but had all kinds of albums I wanted to fit in after.

4. Opeth - Still Life
5. Negura Bunget - OM

9. Edge of Sanity - Crimson
10. maudlin of the well - Bath

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

I'm not what I'd consider a metalhead, neither have yet to have enough exposition to the extreme and progressive metal genre, unfortunately, though I am very much into metal this last year.
A few names come up though:
Kayo Dot- Coyote Deathspell Omega- Fas Ite... , Kenose Dodheimsgard- Supervillain Outcast Virus- Carheart Myster Mobius s/t Negura Bunget- Om Sleepytime Gorilla Museum- Of Natural History, In Glorious Times Unexpect- In A Flesh Aquarium

Dang didn't get an Unexpect album in there. Not sure who I'd replace though.

I don't like "Edge Of Sanity" that much. Therefore, logically, neither do you!

Coyote? Love that album but not remotely metal, closer to chamber rock or jazz than anything.

To say it pretentiously, it's not metal in the traditional sense, but it's unnerving in a way that reminds me of metal, so I count it as metal.

In no particular order: Dream Theater - Awake Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings
Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn of Events Symphony X - V: The New Mythology Suite Riverside - Second Life Syndrome Riverside - Anno Domini High Definition Opeth - Ghost Reveries Devin Townsend - Ziltoid The Omniscient Planet X - Moonbabies
A couple albums I love but don't necessarily go with the theme of this thread: Opeth - Heritage (It's not metal, but one of the best non-metal albums by a prog-metal band) Derek Sherinian - Oceana (Mostly jazz-fusion, with a couple metal riffs; Derek's albums are usually prog-metal)

Ten favorites from someone who doesn't really like the genre in question, but was once a teenage metaller. I don't mind my metal to somehow progress, challenge and stretch the limits of its genre, but prog-metal has very little or no appeal to me.
Kayo Dot: Choirs of the Eye Vektor: Black Future Voivod: Dimension Hatröss Enslaved: Isa Burzum; Filosofem Opeth: Blackwater Park Trollmann Av Ildtoppberg: Dark Clouds Blacken the Sky on the Eve of the Thousandth Sacrifice Death: Leprosy Metallica: ...And Justice For All Mastodon: Leviathan Does Guapo qualify? If so Five Suns in, Leviathan out.
