Topic: Popular artists (Top 50, last 24h) Posted: April 07 2012 at 06:59 |
Can someone explain how does this section of the home page work? what is the criteria used? I'm sure this has been asked before but I did a search and didn't find the explanation.
Ah, and BTW, also the "Top 100 little known but highly rated albums", what's the criteria there?
Thanks !

As far as I know it comes down to how many people access the various band/artist bio pages. So heaps of people access the Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Genesis and Jethro Tull pages so they are always on the home page. It varies though from month to month I noticed but the big ten prog bands are always there.

That's what I thought in the beginning too but then I thought that it was strange that the top bands would always be there, I guess the vast majority of PA members (who in turn I guess outnumber the casual visitors) know these bands bios and discographies by heart. It's very rarely that I may visit the band page for Genesis, Yes, ELP, GG, PF, Rush and the likes, it is precisely the lesser known bands that I may inquire.
So at some point I thought that maybe other criteria are taken into account, for example how often their name is mentioned in the forums or reviews, number of reviews / ratings or whatever.

And Progarchives is often one of the first places common readers will go to, due to PA's popularity, if you search a band like that, so many of the visits aren't common forum members.

And I'm wondering why this feature in now gone... I used to like it.
It was useful to keep track of "what's going on" in the prog world...
Anyone?

Max is working on it. The cache for the list wasn't refreshing, so the same artists stayed there for days on end.

Yeah, I used it for that purpose, too. Hoping it's fixed soon .
