I've not tried to, but I thought it would make more sense for adobe to automatically build in a sound toggle system within flash applications, but that doesn't exist yet.

I've read about some of the add-ons but I hate downloading add-ons for some reason. But for real, Adobe rather than the app authors needs to build in a volume function for users.
