I am on IE. It streamed for a few more songs after I posted and then stopped again. It seems to be working if I click on the next song after I stop now, so I guess it is only a small inconvenience.

Yeah, the stream only seems to work smoothly in Firefox for some reason. Anyhoo, only given the album a cursory listen so far, but it sounds pretty good. I'm not normally a fan of bands trying to retread their"classic" sound, but I feel like Tull needed it as I haven't really liked any of their albums since Broadsword (well, the Christmas one was pretty good, but that doesn't really count).

I made mp3s from out of it and put the cd into the hi-fi stereo. It sounds so much better. Drums everything.:)

^ oh it's not one that no one can see, just an account with a random name. It also helps having a different e-mail which doesn't know your contacts or something, I think.

Just heard the entire album on Sirius XM, interpsersed with live interview with Anderson. Album is "different" from TAAB, and not quite as consistent, but has some truly excellent parts. Lyrics are roundly good, lots of "venom" (both subtle and not) from Anderson re bankers, military, religion, etc. Much more "personal" than TAAB.
Looking forward to getting the album and settling in with headphones and lyrics.
Peace. |
Yeah, I heard that as well. I quite like it actually, though there was one section that seemed overly silly to me, and the "spoken word" parts didn't appeal (but that sort of thing almost never does for me). It's not in the same class as the original, of course, but some very lovely music and I enjoyed the original themes worked in here and there. The singing is surprisingly good, though it's certainly not like it was on the original. Anyway, I might actually have to get this, as it sounds like the best thing I've heard from Anderson in a long time.

Oh, I see. Well, I will probably close my newly opened account sooner rather then later, I think. Don't really see the need for one, except in cases like this one, which means almost never. 'Cause let's face it, how often does JT/Ian Anderson release an album?

Well it gets a bit better later on, but Ian's voice isn't great, and worse, the mixing in my opinion, is dreadful. It sounds lifeless. I expected more from Steven Wilson. And the drums! Where's the energy?! |
Never judge the mixing till the CD is released.

Favorable review by Billboard:
Jethro Tull's audaciously ambitious 1972 concept album, "Thick As a Brick," made prog-rock history. For the album's 40th anniversary, frontman Ian Anderson -- sans Tull -- has crafted a sequel that's just as ambitious as its predecessor. Like the original, Thick As a Brick 2 comprises one continuous, album-length suite with a linear lyrical narrative but multiple shifts in feel. Wisely, Anderson eschewed overt musical modernization in favor of a style that's more in keeping with the folk/rock/classical amalgam of Tull's '72 prog milestone. Anderson's melodic motifs are consistently compelling, and his trademark sardonic wit remains sharp as he examines the possible paths taken by Gerald Bostock (the fictional child around whom the original album's concept revolved), who would now be 48 years old. Trying to follow in the footsteps of such a classic-rock staple could easily have been disastrous, but Anderson triumphs against the odds. Even without his Tull mates, he convincingly picks up where he left off four decades earlier, proving that there are still vital sonic statements to be made within the old-school prog-rock realm.

I'm new in this forum and I would like to know why this album isn't included as another Jethro Tull album entry into the group's file. TAAB2 was released two months ago and there is no entry created for it yet.

It's under the Ian Anderson section: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=719
The album was credited to 'Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson' and didn't have Martin Barre on it, so it's not considered a Tull album.
Edit: Someone beat me to it.

Ah! It's okay, then. Thanks to both,
So this is what Ian Anderson came to release. Does it mean that Jethro Tull is no more?

Hi Neil: I knew that Barre had some health problems, but I heard they will be touring on 2013.
My personal opinion is that Ian didn't wanted to release TAAB2 to avoid risks for Jethro Tull.
