It depends on how ambitious aspiring writers are. Some think everything coming from them belongs to history. Others, like, for example, Jim Morrison told that to create something original, it's necessary to get rid of early writings influenced by others. Tough choice. Confused

That doesn't really answer the question though. As it stands right now, I'm required to rewrite my old reviews before I'm allowed to become a prog reviewer. If even non-collab reviews were shown in full, would users rewriting their old reviews remain a prerequisite?

^ I think  don't even dream to be a prog reviewer before you decide for yourself what to do with your old reviews. Wink

Probably admins have different point of view, I don't know.

In an attempt to revitalise this thread, and moreover celebrate a man who has been a huge part of me opening up to the delicacies and wonderful world of Italian prog, I'd like to highlight our own Finnforest who just now crossed that invisible line called a thousand reviews(!!!).
With a beautiful review, that speaks volumes of both artist as well as Jim's own passion for the music, he is now part of a few collabs here, who have contributed to the site with over a thousand written reviews. In addition to that, I have never come across a bad review from him, which just goes to show the quality of the man's work.

Here's to you JimBeer You are truly a treasure to this site.

Now, could we please use this thread to discuss reviews - single out writings we find commendable, funny, strange - but moreover interesting. It has recently turned into a thread about what the content, nature and direction of reviews should be, and that is to me slightly boring and unimaginative. The reason PA is such a wonderful place, is because of the many different people on here, how we write, experience different musics and how we choose to convey that. So, let the positive words continue to flow - now starting with mine about Jim. A fine starting point, I should think so...

I know there are 144 pages on this thread, and it might have been discussed before, but, as a reminder for everyone, ...

what constitutes a good review on this website?

Nice work Jim! I know I've bought quite a few albums based on one of his reviews. Definitely a good writer.

The best way for me to answer that would be to tell you to read the recent reviews of people who have already been given the title of prog reviewer. From that, you could come up with your own personal decision on what constitutes a good review.

A new piece of information. But isn't there a chance of some of them losing it a bit Wink ?

^ I mean, if there is a prog reviewer who forgets an ingredient or two that make his review sound much better? You know what, it's no big deal. Don't worry about it.

Maybe if Geoff had read some of those five star reviews, he would know the album he reviewed isn't progressive metal.  Ermm

But how can a Maudlin of the Well album be any good if it isn't metal? *laughs hysterically*
Expectations are the death of many reviews...
