Sverige is correct. Not a writer, not Thelott (never heard of her; I have to look her up ).

Looked her up now, she was born a bit too early (in the 17th century).

Good guess, but no. Not a musician/composer.

No. The person I have in mind was not an artist. Hint: Solanum tuberosum.

I can see why you guessed that, but it’s not correct. This woman was the first female member of a quite exclusive society.

It's Eva Ekeblad (née de la Gardie).

I first heard about Eva Ekeblad a few weeks ago while I was translating a Swedish book about growing vegetables. Her discovery of how to make alcohol out of potatoes was much more important than we may think today: At the time most people didn’t eat potatoes and a lot of grain was used to make liquer. When they could use potatoes, they could use the grain to make bread instead.

I recently bought myself a bottle of Brennivín when I was in Iceland. If it were not for the bread, this would still stand out as one of the benefits of her discovery. Here's to Eva Ekeblad .

Oops, you shouldn't have waited for me to return! Anyhow, it's my go. Female, fictional, not sure if deceased.

Not sure if she's immortal (but I'll say she probably is), no but she's from several different sources but the one I'm referring to is from a play.
