So the key to the jungle is (1) something you construct out of jungle parts and (2) something you construct out of parts gained in the area after the jungle. If you haven't made it into the dungeon, I suggest you bring a space gun with meteor armor and a war axe of night to keep the hornets at bay. Otherwise, use a nice Muramasa. If you can't even get meteorite, Shadow Armor + War Axe of Night + a musket might be alright. Also, don't bother going near unless you have a grappling hook. Also, bring potions. |

I've also found a bit of silver but not much. Boo.
I'm just randomly exploring the deep and seeing what I find. If it means better weapons or armour, then cool but I have 2 parts of the Shadow armour already. The fun but is making the water flow to different bits so I don't have to swim so much. Haha. |

So, I tried The Darkness 2 demo. Clearly built for consoles; controls are horrendously awkward on the PC at times. Shooting mechanics are awkward in general. Also, Jesus Christ that game is vicious. I mean, there are incidentally-bloody games, like Half-Life, and then there are games which delight in their sadism, like Manhunt 2. In The Darkness 2, you spend most of your time just ripping people apart. I mean, tearing their bodies in half or ripping their heads off or going all Alien chestburster on them. Anyone you so boringly shoot to death gets his heart ripped out and eaten. If you can find a nearby pole, you can impale enemies with it. Any and all such actions are showered in blood. I mean, holy f**k is that game violent.

^not sure if I'd really put that down to it being a port to PC - the original was clunky as hell on consoles too. Sounds like they're going down the whole gimmicky ultra-violence route too.
Finally got Dragon Age: Origins. At about 10 hours in I think it's a great RPG although it feels like it hasn't aged too well. The graphics are pretty terrible and the PS3 build is supposed to look a lot better than the Xbox build. Plot is super generic (an ancient evil has awoken! You are the chosen one) and the lore isn't all that interesting yet either. Combat is great though (playing as an Elf Warrior/Board n Sword build) and the classic CRPG feel of the game is really nice. |

I finished Metal Gear Solid 2 last night. It was, I'm happy to admit, one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. I'm glad I've got the third one to jump into. I only wish the fourth one wasn't a damned PS3 exclusive. I'd trade Grand Theft Auto series for it. Or are they working on that already?

SURE IS I actually ended up in the underworld before the jungle, so that helped. It doesn't take much to get what you need for the ivy whip, with the ridiculous amount of spores lying around |

If you've never played Snake Eater before and you thought Sons of Liberty was great then you are in for a real treat. Snake Eater is definitely the best of the series imo. Do you have the regular edition or the Subsistence edition?
Also, what did you think of the bait and switch playing as Raiden instead of Snake? Maybe because I played it so long after the fact, but I didn't really mind, whereas most seem to thing it was a travesty. |

you can hit man eaters through walls though, for some reason. Just get a weapon with any pushback at all and they can't even hurt you
and reforge costs different amounts for different weapons

I didn't mind it at all. I have the regular edition of Snake Eater. It's superb so far.

wat. I'm going to have to try that, when I was there it seemed like they were even immune to knockback. And why would you want to reforge a Godly anything?

I think I've fallen under that game series' spell. I adore the cutscenes. Do you know if they're actually working on releasing MGS4 for the 360 anytime soon?
I love the idea of having to treat your own wounds with ointments, bandages, and disinfectants. Burning off leeches with a cigar and prying bullets out of your leg with a knife? I don't know why that prospect excites me. I think it's because, to me, Metal Gear Solid 3 is the ultimate spy fiction. It isn't about a host of illustrious gadgets, tuxedos, code words, or driving sports cars. Nor is it about breaking into government complexes all day just to steal information. You're behind enemy lines, you're truly working on camouflage and covert operation. Sneaking is more favorable than killing, and you're surviving on rat meat and chopped alligators. I love the fact that it takes place in 1964. It's as if Apocalypse Now, The Spy Who Came In from the Cold, and philosophy were all twisted together. When Snake delves into a gun-nut monologue, it's surprising. Some games have a lot of gun information, but Snake is a character that knows more gun information than I'll ever know. I like how a new weapon seems to excite him. It's a plausible character trait. It's as if the characters and events actually matter. In MGS2, two weapons controlled by the hand of circumstance, two genetic soldiers fight to kill each other, both considered to be lacking free will, above the statue of George Washington, one of the most anthemic points in the history of declared freedom. In a game like God of War (love it, anyway) the characters seem written solely to have the simple revenge greek tragedy play through. In a movie like Pay it Forward, the main by character seems written solely to, erm, you know...not be a happy ending. But in these games (and it is a rare occasion for me, which is why I care), the people all have something they want to accomplish for specific reasons. The only other gaming experiences that gave me plots I cared for were Bioshock and possibly a few Bioware games. The only thing I don't like about Snake Eater, and it is terribly minor, is the crouching. If you're on your stomach in cover you have to press the button once to rise to your knees, wait for it to register THEN press it again to fully rise. That can be much too delayed in certain high pressure situations. EDIT: Never even mind that complaint. I didn't realize the button was pressure sensitive. I don't make a habit of reading instruction manuals. I'm more of a 'hop in and see what happens' video game player.

To make it Legendary if it's a sword, Unreal if it's a gun, or Mythical if it's a spell book. Otherwise... nope, no good reason. Any enemy who clips though walls can be hit through walls. That includes bosses. Edited by Gamemako - January 29 2012 at 10:16 |

Level 69 in Skyrim. It's taking forever to get to 80, or whatever the max is. At least I can cast spells that have an effect on myself forever.

I agree Snake Eater is the best MGS game, but MGS1 and 2 are really close too, providing it's the Twin Snakes version where you can actually get past the tank battle.

Don't you just love how every time you try and save the game you have to endure a 10 minute conversation about contemporary films? And the variety of hilarious things Snake says when he eats the various animals you can catch in the jungle? Its little things like that which give the game (and series) so much personality, and combined with the epic boss battles and thrilling plot it really is a masterwork.

Eight playthroughs of Isaac done now. This last one...I barely took any damage in the womb levels, thanks to max speed, the Transcendence pickup, a couple flies and meatboy surrounding me, and quick splitting shots. Felt pretty nice. Early on, I got not one, but two dollars, pretty much back to back...kind of a waste, but I bought every item from then on. Got a skeleton key too, though that was once I was already in the womb so it was fully useless.
