Well it is more than minutes for me, but yeah. I'm at an awkward level where I can't explore Hell very much because I only have a gold pickaxe, but the cavern is not challenging at all. Maybe I'll go try the jungle. I also wish that money wasn't almost completely useless, but that's a common problem with games like this.

Money will be important later when you want better weapon stats and reforging your Hurtful Gungnir costs 3 platinum (equivalent of 3,000,000 copper).

If you don't have a demonite pickaxe yet, I suspect you aren't ready for the underground jungle, but you could go ahead and try. Have you done Skeletron yet?

I've barely played much Terraria.  I was playing it in a small world on single player to get a feel for it.  Are the same things achievable at that size than at medium and large?

Yes, there are all the same things.  Just less of each.

Yep. Fewer floating islands, shorter distance to underworld, smaller dungeon, etc, etc.

That's what I thought.

I played a bit last night and got annoyed at all the grave stones I had accumulated so started a new character and now I'm also annoyed with that one for the same reason!

Hah, have you seen my graveyard?

And those are just the ones I've been able to recover. Some ended up in lava and were lost forever (when you try to recover them with a hammer, they instantly dissolve).

Hahaha, that's cool.

Mine's coming along a bit better now.  I've finally made myself a copper broadsword and also now have 10 Mana.  I've got ages to go yet.

Oh and the merchant turned up.  I built him a house in advance but didn't realise I had 50 silver. Big smile

I've yet to find any gold but presume it's around somewhere.  Must keep mining.

I managed to mine for ages without any hassle too.  Once I got stuck though and had to make some ledges to get back up, all the enemies now are able to get down.  Hmm.

I may create a deep pit or something for them to fall into.

Thanks to Gamemako, I am not much more well versed in Terraria.  I have some half-decent armour and some half-decent weapons.

loooool, then why am I wasting my time melting stone into armor statues for 60 copper

No, I haven't defeated Skeletron. I spent a long time mining because I died to Eye of Cthulhu twice with my sh*tty silver and iron equipment, so I wanted to get a full gold set. I think I overdid it because I rolled right over him and the Eater of Worlds a few times, so now I have a full Demonite set (both the axes I made had significant penalties, but whatever...). But I still quickly died to Skeletron, so I think I need to go craft some more potion support because I wasted all the good ones I found on EoC and EoW. I'm probably going to work on that and maybe the jungle since I'm kind of tired of mining and dealing with all that lava seems like a pain.

I also built a five story stone house, which took way too long (perhaps because I wanted everything symmetrical..), so I will not be moving anytime soon. I can walk to the damn Demon Alter if I really need it. While it makes sense from a gameplay perspective, it is weird story-wise that there are so many demon alters and hellforges. Who is making them?

I don't know. TBH, stone is more valuable to me than 0.6 copper apiece. LOL

Shadow armor is the best melee armor you can get until molten (hellstone stuff). Jungle is good for magic, but you won't be using that. Meteorite is technically good for ranged, but I'd rather take Shadow for the bonus armor and movement speed. Meteorite is good for the unlimited space gun, but when I did Skeletron, I did it with a demonite bow and shadow armor. Unholy arrows are great for it and can be purchased from the arms dealer at night after you've killed EoW. They also drop in abundance from EoC if you have lots of lenses to summon him -- sell the extra demonite ore for gold, since 60 ores are worth like 5 gold, which will buy you more than 1000 arrows (you shouldn't need more than 300 since a core demon bow with unholy arrows takes 220 hits on the head to kill him). Unholy arrows pierce his arms so you don't have to look for openings. Jester arrows will also do the trick, but they're hard to get in abundance and have short range. If you're still having trouble, set up a long, flat arena to fight him in so you can jump over his arms. Also, bring a cloud in a bottle.

Not much story to go around, but you can always speculate. Look at the underworld in general. Clearly, some civilization preceded your arrival on the continent, and somehow their civilization ended up ruined in hell. Considering that destroying the WoF results in the unleashing of spirits of light and dark, it's possible that the WoF is the result of the destruction of two opposed societies, one in the underworld as worshipers of dark and others at the top as worshipers of light. Considering that the corruption spreads naturally and that the WoF helped prevent its spread, your arrival may have something to do with the rebirth of the corruption on the world -- perhaps the weakening of the WoF with time. Those allied with neither side (humans, druids) would have to oppose the re-emergence of the corruption.

See? Speculate. You can never be wrong with these kinds of things. Wink

That was supposed to say "now", not "not".

I also need to get the last past of that shadow armour but every time I venture to that floating island, I end up dying.

I know, just poking fun.

It's easier to just bash shadow spheres to get more demonite. Every third or so will spawn an EoW. When he spawns, chug an ironskin potion and swing away until he dies. Alternatively, toss a bundle of those spiky balls on the ground around you and he'll get hit 5 times by each. He'll drop like ~50 shadow scales and ~125 demonite ores total. A lot of the shadow spheres will be under ebonstone, so either craft a nightmare pickaxe or buy some purification powder. Purification powder will turn ebonstone to normal stone so you can mine it with any pickaxe. Shadow spheres are found in corrupted chasms.

I have a little bit of demonite but obviously not enough.

I crafted a new broadsword too but forgot what...  I'm mostly still using the boomerang.

Yeah, I was being lazy before because my dungeon is near a mountain and I didn't want to flatten it out, but Skeletron wasn't too bad with ironskin + regeneration and room to maneuver. Unfortunately, my meteorite landed in the ocean and the sharks are too annoyingly strong, but I already have a hellforge because one spawned on wood platforms (...), so I can live without meteorite. You are right that the underground jungle is hard, goddamn those hornets hurt. Sure, I can spam vilethorn, but that takes forever...

I've walked across my whole world now and I haven't seen any of the signs of a floating island that the Wiki says, so I guess I'll have to do it the hard way with gravity potions.

If you see some stone that goes vertically upwards (much like a rope), that's where the floating island is.  Or at least it is on mine.

I put that there, you know.

If you want to find your islands, get meteorite bullets and shoot directly up as you walk around. If you're under an island, the bullet will bounce back. That's how I found my islands (large map -- 5 islands). Islands won't do you much good, though, unless you've already killed Skeletron, because you can only find gold keys in the Dungeon, and all floating island chests are locked. Usually a good bit of gold and silver ores there, though, if you have need of it.

If you're like me and have cloud in a balloon + specter boots + wings, you can find all islands on small maps by just jumping.

I managed to find a bit of amethyst and some other gemstone to mine.  I might be able to make a yellow phaseblade soon.
