Oh and yes, modding is another reason. Even if it is just so I can make my character look better.

Honestly, games just seem generally best on PC, and there is the modding aspect (don't care at all about multiplayer really so that's w/e) my laptop is just too old :(
Does seem you pretty much have to upgrade everything (or get a new comp) every so often to keep up, but yeah I'm so stuck with consoles I don't think about PC Speaking of crashing/issues Skyrim still seems to be running fine, for PS3! Oh, and there was even another update (aka instability patch!) My copy must be graced by god or something Edited by JJLehto - December 20 2011 at 19:00 |

1) Well, you may have gotten it right after they fixed the issue that caused the RROD, or you might just be lucky (and in that case, your luck will run out) Every first-gen 360 I know of has failed. Another fellow I knew used to brag that his made it before it died maybe 8 months ago. 2a) I am unsure whether you just have really terrible standards for "smooth" or whether you've never played Mass Effect. To quote IGN on the issue:
2b) First, holy f**k, you spent two grand on a laptop? Second, holy f**k, it can't even play Mass Effect? My desktop cost me $600 two-and-a-half years ago including the monitor, and it runs ME1 like a champ. 3) The 64 had heat issues with the expansion pak. My first Dreamcast toasted itself as well. The SNES and NES didn't, though, and mine are still perfectly functional. 4) I actually don't like playing competitive games. Online is fun, but only co-op. That puts me at odds with the console crowd even more. 5) Uh... if you say so. The rest of us will just enjoy much-improved games. 6) They both have their uses. Mouse and keyboard is good for accuracy of pointing and complexity. That makes it good for the likes of shooters, RPGs, and strategy games. Gamepad, however, offers superior movement control in most cases due to the analog sticks; this makes the gamepad better for third-person action games (e.g. Devil May Cry) and platformers. Problem is, it's easy to use a gamepad on a PC, but not so easy to use a mouse and keyboard on a console. Remember when Dreamcast did it? Yeah, that. |

Ah, I've had that framerate issue as well. It especially happens when you jump onto a planet in your Mako. The textures do indeed load piece by piece. I thought it was my laptop being silly.
I also don't play many co-op games. I do play online games sometimes but mostly ones where I'm not in a team or I create a closed server (like I did on Diablo 2). I actually got used to playing games using my trackball until I broke it. Now I'm using a mouse again and I am constantly having to pause games to adjust the mouse 'cause I run out of room! This is quite annoying when gong up spiral stairs (like in Oblivion, Mass Effect and DA:O) and I have to spin my character to allow the mouse to be centred better. I don't mod myself but do use many mods. From the bland hair mods to complete game changers. In fact, I accidentally stumbled on Spellhold Studios website again earlier (I've not been there in a while) and there's some very nice BGII mods on there I may try out. New characters, new quests, new items... mmm. And if you're so inclined, romance mods for vanilla game characters. And I use BGTutu and it greatly improves the experience of playing BG1. Oblivion is apparently a vastly improved game with Mods. Mass Effect though has no mods. ME2 though does allow some modding. |

Oh and my laptop cost me £1500 about 5 years ago. It's only due to age that I'm having a few issues with ME. It's still on Medium settings though.
So if you spent $2000 on yours (not sure how long ago) then you should have no issue playing ME. You don't miss out much on Medium anyhow as the graphics were not exactly mindblowing. |

I got my laptop for $2,000 about 5 years ago. But I got my Xbox 360 for (I can't remember) 300-400 dollars 5 years ago. The former always gives and has given me more trouble.

That's the nature of a PC though. It's not just used for game playing. You're bound to run into issues.
As I said earlier, my mate got the Red Ring of Death on his 360 a few months ago. It will happen to you. I guess you best ask for a 360 Kinect for Christmas. |

Actually, I have had my 360 for years now and not one red ring of death, while everyone I know has gotten it, if not multiple times.
Seriously, my game equip is blessed! |

Nope, just the engine. Unreal 3 engine isn't good with big outdoors areas. ME2 solves this by making everything narrow corridors.
Hah, I've been playing games like that for so long that picking up and replacing the mouse is something I do without thinking. My mouse is always centered.
Indeed. Mods are also absolutely necessary for Fallout 3. I got the tougher traders (so they'll stop dying on me), doubled damage to all characters (so fights don't take 3 hours and 3400 bullets), and turned off random respawning (so I don't have to kill 35 uber-scorpions just to get where I'm going). The game is VASTLY improved for it. Also, let's not forget that only on PC can you use the almighty player.setav carryweight 99999 command!
ME still has the console, which allows you to do things like access armors that aren't accessible in the game. Right now, my Vanguard is wearing heavy Hoplite armor. Stats are pretty close to medium Colossus: same damage resist, 15 less shields, 30 more biotic protection. But as for ME2, man, I'd die without the save editor. I always just hack myself a bundle of resources. Mining is painful, so I save myself the misery and edit in all the resources I need. |

The only wish I have is that my main character has long hair. I hate not having an option to at least have medium length hair on males! I realise they're supposed to be military and the buzz cut is the norm but at least let my Ruthless Earthborn character defy this! He doesn't do rules.
The only Mods available for ME are texture ones and most are concerned with Garrus, who for some reason has a terrible face compared to all other Turians. Edited by James - December 20 2011 at 22:28 |

Just because we don't have the same viewpoint doesn't mean we're idiots. You can be a little condescending sometimes.I prefer consoles, and have no problems with playing games on them. Edited by TheProgtologist - December 21 2011 at 07:57 |

If you want to play games on console, that's fine. Just don't give nonsense reasons for it. I mean, come on: it was claimed that lack of slowdown and overheating were advantages when talking about a game notorious for slowdown on a system notorious for overheating. I didn't use Google to find that bit about the framerate issues; I just went to IGN (used to be my go-to for gaming news) and opened the Mass Effect review.
Have you seen the character art for the default female Shepard in ME3? Long red hair. You may yet get the option for long hair! You'll just have to wait until you no longer care about it. |

My concern is not with other people having issues. I've never had framerate issues or crashes with ME1 on my Xbox 360 and I have it running right now. I could definitely show you some recording gameplay footage, efficiently outlining how these issues aren't present for me. I've never had a red ring, never had an unexpected crash, never had an overheating issue - do you think I'm lying?
As I said, I'm certain it happens, but I've heard many more horror stories about PC gaming issues than I have console gaming issues. I've only ever experienced PC gaming issues, personally, and I've been heavily gaming in both fields most my life.

I have the Expanded version on DVD. It forced my computer to almost blow up... it's playable though. It's one of those odd games I want to enjoy more but it's got a few oddities too.
I never finished it though. Edited by James - December 21 2011 at 15:47 |

I just fiddled with a replay, and what I was talking about is the walking animation for the minigun when it's not spinning. It was an illusion that I thought they were going faster than I was as a heavy. |

Yeah seriously, the whole system debate thing is silly anyway. They are all fine, and if you wanna get into the nitty gritty and fine details that you don't really notice unless you care to....
In fact I am considering buying a PS2 and Gamceube. So many great games on those, some of my favorites. And I really only played em once/never beat some! Games today blow, only a few catch my interest...I needa go old school |
