Norwegian 70s proggers Popul Vuh, later changed their name to Popol Ace (because of the German band). Released 4 albums. Their vocalist Jahn Teigen was asked by Genesis to replace Peter Gabriel in 1975!

Yes,Popol Vuh (Ace) were good but as for Teigen being asked to replace Gabriel in Genesis,Tony Banks himself denies it and I think I trust his recollection a bit more than Teigen's.

Have not heard of many of these acts to be honest. Must be living with head up arse syndrome

Anyway, I voted for Focus. Great band

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I think it was contact between Teigen and the Genesis management, though it might have been informal.

Very informal,I think. The Genesis management may have had a few feelers out,but Tony Banks says that no concrete offer was made to anyone.

Focus for me too but I notice that Rush and Saga were omitted.

What this a snub to our Canadian chums?

I bet it is a snub

How on Earth could one forget Rush, even if they weren't a fan. They're Canadas finest IMO.

Dont know much about Saga. I'll have to research them..

Saga is a minefield, be sure to check out their earlier stuff first. Great synth/keyboard based prog. Everything up until and including Behaviour is worth a listen, after that I would only buy Generation 13 and Steel Umbrellas. The rest of their catalogue is aquried taste at best.

Pity it's not possible to expand the poll list. But then there were so many good non-UK bands in the 1970s (BANCO, to give just one example). Of those in the poll list I've voted for PFM, which is one of my favourite Prog groups *including* UK bands.

Choosing between Focus and PFM was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make...

But PFM get my vote!

(Although I'd like to have seen Amon Duul II and Can in there, just to make the decision next to impossible )

I'd go for PFM, then Focus, but I thought that poor, neglected, non-Archived Celtic proggers HORSLIPS deserved a vote.Stern Smile
