Merlin is the start, Harry Potter is the continuation, Merlin satt the standartds while Potter trye to reach them (he never will though) he is not even stronger then Dumbledore, Dumbledore is on level with Merlin in terms of strength in magic and spells but Merlin knows anciant magic, magic of the old and unplessant kind.

Merlin, Odin and Väinärmöinen are like forefathers to every single magical high sorccerar on the planet and multimedia land, Santa Clause, Gandalf, Dr Xavier, Dumbledore, Yoda, Rick Wakeman Tongue

Merlin, though in the current TV series he is getting annoying, but still nowhere near as annoying as Hairy Putter.
