I don't know if this is old news but someone told me yesterday that Fripp decided to have all the remastered KC albums remastered again?!!!!! So he had them removed from all the shelves in record stores and the're going to be released again sometime later when he's done. He must be able to improve the sound significantly to be able to remaster them AGAIN only five or so years from when he originally started remastering them. Maybe he needs some money and he thinks he can cash in on the reremasters, who knows?

argh... i bet it'll be in some new format I don't have a player for as well. Genesis are being redone soon as well, although I think their last remaster was back in '96 anyway..?

Wizard/TRueStar,

I'm not sure whether what you were told is correct. The HMV and Virgin record stores in London's Oxford Street today had King Crimson CDs on the shelves, and I notice that Amazon UK is selling a new release of "In The Court Of The Crimson King" (released on 15 November 2004 by Dgm Records). A new release of "Larks' Tongues In Aspic" is coming out on 29 November, "Starless & Bible Black" and various others on 6 December, and so on. But perhaps these are the re-remastered (?) albums that you were told about?

Fitzcarraldo

I think you're right. Although Fripp had a big battle with EG Records about copyright over a decade ago (I'm sure there is a lot said about this by Fripp in the liner notes of one of the KC box sets), it is clear for the most recent issues that Virgin Records is looking after distribution (especially in the UK). Virgin are putting a sticker over the bar code original printed on each of the insert or cardboard repro cover, which gives their own bar code/catalogue number for the different KC albums. Therefore I suspect Fripp will have some problem with Virgin the licensee, if he tries to get them to  withdraw unsold stock in the UK. However, anything issued independently through Discipline and it might be a different story.
