The system built on an admittedly intriguing, but gimmicky idea with a game lineup that seems to cater to 10 years and under, or 40 and over, and family/party games So no one in Morthal would help me fight the dragon. I had to run away like a punk, to buy healing, fire resist potions and some good arrows. Got it down to maybe a fifth of its health THEN guards run to it and start attacking and finish it off. Thanks blokes, real helpful I was gunna go on a tough mission too, so it drained my potions I had bought and made me buy more. Now I need to sell stolen goods to make it up! |

I agree with Colin and Siam on this.
Oh and Brian, just because it's like Oblivion doesn't mean I will hate it. If indeed it is a lot better than Oblivion, then I may at least take a look at it. Some of the stuff I dislike about Oblivion has been improved on. Of course, it's still a sandbox game and I've never really got on with them that well but that maybe due to other elements making my experience worse. |

What were your gripes? I mean, it's hard to imagine that you'd dislike Oblivion and like Skyrim. Things you'd hate about Oblivion are 1) Aimlessness 2) Poor combat 3) Weak story 4) Dodgy balance and guess what, none of those are fixed.
Ill-advised. You should be dual-casting destruction unless you're ward-draining your opponent's magic (something absolutely essential against vampires, who will inhale all of your HP faster than you can damage them if you don't have a ward up). You can't block if you don't have a shield or a free hand, and you can't use the weapon at the same time as the magic anyway -- your stream of fire will pause when you swing your weapon. Wards make it possible to ignore weapon skills, but wards are Restoration and Restoration has no damage abilities, so you have to use a second skill leveled anyway. If you're going to abuse sneak, use one-hand and bows both. Bows are pretty overpowered again, and 6x damage on stealth strikes will put down most opponents in one shot if you've got some points in the overdraw skill (goes up to double damage, I believe, which would be the equivalent of 12 arrows). I started with a focus on DW, but archery is my highest level talent. Also, support the archer dude at the beginning so you can get free training by purchasing training from him and then taking the gold back from him. For close-up, stealth strikes with a dagger top out at 15x damage (and you get double your damage with the base talent there as well for a total of 30x damage), but in active combat, archery talents allow for paralysis, 50% stagger, and you can punch anyone who gets too close. |

Pretty much those 4 but also add characterisation to the list. The limited actors was quite annoying. I hadn't even really done many main quests to even find out what the story was. I got fed up with it before that. Aimlessness was indeed one of the main gripes. Having to walk around doing endless fetch quests was not fun. The landscape and villages were almost identical. At least in Morrowind there was a bit more variance. The only thing I really wanted to do after I got bored of it, was to go out find all the books. Then I realised many of those books were in stupid places and some I need levitation for and I was such a low level I couldn't be arsed in the end. Combat was also an issue. For some unknown reason I seemed to take forever killing crabs and rats with my sword. I'm trying hard to think of something I enjoyed about the game but am really struggling! |

I didn't find a problem with combat all that much in Oblivion.
Also monsters scaled in Oblivion. So monsters were always the same level as you. Thats why crabs and rats always seemed to to take a few hits.

In Oblivion, all characters of a given race and sex sounded alike. That is no longer the case. However, you will encounter quite a few duplicates. Every time I see an Imperial voiced by the guy who did Fenris in DA2, I chuckle. I don't know how much you can avoid that, though, given the size of the world. There's no more acrobatics skill, so you always jump the same height now. No more floaty physics, either. Good riddance to that mess, I say. Enemies do level with you again, though not quite the same way. You generally just unlock more opponents. The problem is that, once again, enemies can have too damn much health (especially if you play on the top difficulty level, like I do). If I run into a bandit, I can roast his ass in about 4 seconds. If it's a Bandit Marauder, it will literally take 2 minutes of fireballs, arrows, and slashing to finish him off. Granted, that kind of opponent is rare, but holy hell, it takes FOREVER to finish someone like that. You're all but required to bring along companions because fights will take you all day otherwise. |

Yeah, the scaling is fixed in many ways but more broken in others. I like that some enemies will absolutely destroy me if I'm not levelled enough - this actually makes me feel like I should level up and get better to go through that part of the game. At the same time, it's annoying that giants are significantly harder than dragons at basically any level. Most dragons I've fought haven't even really been a challenge either, except for a couple of Ice-breathing Blood Dragons. |

Yeah, I heard the Fenris actor was in it. There's a video on YouTube of him voicing other characters other than Fenris and he's not always the same. He still has that deep voice though. He was in DA: Origins too, of course.
I know enemies scaled with my character when levelling. But 2 or 3 hits to kill a rat or a crab? Not in my experience. Maybe it was because I was using that Spark sword. |

Joel, giants are a piece of cake once you're level 30 or so.

Oh wait, the spark sword was Morrowind, I think.
My mind mixes the games together. |

This is interesting: Entire Tamriel Landmass built into Skyrim. |

Giants are a piece of cake at level 1. You can sidestep their attacks forever and gradually toast them with your flamethrower-hands. Yeah, you can still kill everything by just jumping on logs and running circles around rocks. |

I'm level 31 but I still find them significantly more threatening than the majority of dragons I've come across
But is it really fair to call a game easy if you choose to exploit it? |

Yeah, I don't sidestep or run circles when fighting them, the closest I do to that is sneak around and shoot things which are apparently too dumb to find me after I've filled them with 10 or so arrows.

How good are you at finding things with 10 arrows in you? |

^ Well played. Downloading Farenheit right now (think it was sold as Indigo Prophecy in some places) from gog.com since it was only 6$/I need something to do in between playing Deus Ex and seeing if bethesda can fix Skyrim with the patch (which I doubt). Keen to actually play through this game rather than just a few segments. |

I played through Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit some time ago. It was a fun play. It's more plot oriented than anything else. In fact, it's like a more interactive point-and-click adventure without the stiff cheese and detective intrigue. Lots of choices and minuscule facets. Not something I'd play through twice, but that first time was great.
