Skyrim is indeed ballin.
The detail really is something else, it's that immersion factor that's such a great part of the Elder Scrolls and there's no "pop up" in Skyrim. As in trees and scenery popping into screen as you move. That was never an issue for me and I get it's because there's so much to handle, so the fact I dont really see it now means they put every single thing you see there! Insane. Trying to find the Dark Brotherhood. Unlike Oblivion where my roomie had this bible (the Oblible) I have not used the web or anything thus far, all been pure exploration : D |

My mate purchased it on XBox. I had a quick look at it. Unfortunately we didn't have long as we were going out, so I only saw two of his characters walking about and didn't see any combat.
Graphically it didn't look as great as Oblivion. Although character faces looked much improved. I do like the sound of all the little touches they've put in. Maybe when I've upgraded my computer and the GotY Edition is out, I may then take a look at it. I have very little harddisk space right now my laptop is over 4 years old (I'm sure it'll run on lower settings though). I really could do with a new machine... ah well. Are you guys completionists? My mate was wandering about with one of his characters and was chatting to people and it seemed some of them were offering quests but he wasn't interested in them (not even seeing what the quest was). That sounds weird to me! I try and do every quest I can, unless it doesn't fit in with my characters alignment. He was also wandering around trying to find some guy but hasn't a clue where he is... I'm sure he'll find him eventually. Edited by James - November 16 2011 at 02:30 |

Up next: Chinese Embassy board slams Pac-Man for his improperly lewd depiction of the Asian community. Chief Director was quoted saying 'I don't even like fruit. Pretzels, they're okay, but I don't even like the taste of bananas'. Hell Bent for Pleather, indeed!

My copy has returned to playable (and insanely smooth in interiors) but towns are still horrible and there's a stutter every few seconds. Turning off autosaving/reducing my inventory has seemed to help a lot. @James: For me this is easily the most immersive game when it's playable. I agree with Alitare on basically everything, except some elements of stealth which still feel so painfully bad. As far as being a completionist goes, I'd definitely say I am in ES games. I basically don't even consider taking up more quests until I've finished everything I currently have. |

Yeah I get a stutter step every few steps, though sometimes not.
Doesn't ruin the game though. Holy hell I put in 20 hours, and probably 8 of em today! need to find a better way to occupy my recent and abrupt unemployment.... Gunna work on some more main quests, tomorrow though. My eyes hurt Edited by JJLehto - November 16 2011 at 21:27 |

I have about 27 hours so far, according to Steam...last night I found and killed my first dragon priest, they're pretty cool. I'll say no more to avoid possible spoilers.

Dragon Priests? I've killed six dragons, as well as defeating Alduin the first bout at the Throat of the World, but priests? I've put in about 17 hours so far. Got my smithing up to nearly 80, and made a full set of orcish armor upgraded to the 'epic' grading. I also have an 'epic' glass mace I made. Last I checked I was level twenty three. Just now started my first actual 'guild' questline with the Companions. I don't even know where to find the Dark Brotherhood yet, and I have a miscellaneous quests list that's approximately forty-quests long. Hell, I already have the itch to start a second character of more nefarious, clandestine intent.
And again I gotta say that, on the Xbox 360, I never suffer from lag, FPS drop, slow run-times, or awful glitches. There aren't any psychotic graphical interface eruptions or 'strangenesses'. I saw a goat swimming once, does that count? My only complaint so far is that the loading times could've been improved upon (but nowhere near as bad as Fallout New Vegas! I literally kept a book on hand to read during loading screens in that one). It's been real good to me. Skyrim has bumped into my top ten favorite games ever.

I was reading on the BioWare forums (where they have a Skyrim thread) that some people have played 36 hours or more and barely even scratched the surface. They're mostly doing side quests too and leaving the main quest 'til late.
I'm the same with RPGs in terms of trying to be a completionist. I try and do as many of the side quests as possible until I cannot do them any more. Then I do some of the main quest, which often opens up more side quests. |

I haven't done any of the main quest really. I know like 6 words of power so I should probably kill a dragon to make use of them...
More or less done with the Dark Brotherhood main and I'm deep into the Thieves Guild. The only real problem I've had with allies is them f**king up my sneaking. I wish I could tell them to stay still ad the beginning of a dungeon lol.

I've got 11 shouts, although a lot of them are useless and I've only unlocked like 5 and use 3 regularly. Kinda sucks, two of them I've picked up are just spells from Oblivion/Morrowind in omg shout form!. 7 dragon souls left over too. Just checked, clocked 37 hours now. Damn, this was a thing of pure beauty and perfection...I channeled my Splinter Cell days.
Was struggling to make it through this cave with bandits, they were strong and no real room to hide or move around, and sneaking past was a nightmare. So from a distance I would use my bow and shoot one, switch to my warhammer and started to wind up, by the time they got to me...perfect time for max wing to their head. Potion to restore stamina, and repeat. This one was retarded and long as I hid she couldn't find me "durr must've been nothing that put this arrow in me" so I picked her off slowly. Got to the end without a gang fight and without detection. Brilliant! |

My amazing sister managed to track down a copy of the EU Collector's Edition of Deus Ex: Human Revolution for my birthday, so been playing that whilst staring spitefully at Skyrim. Absolutely loving it so far - defintely worthy to carry the Deus Ex name. The 'everything is yellow' filter is annoying at times but the game is fantastic. Playing as a pacifist for this playthrough although that's kinda hampering my enjoyment of it a little, thanks to not being able to use 90% of the weaponry/a few other things. Also, Skyrim stuff: Game is playable for about 30 minutes per boot and then chugs at 10fps forever. Ocasionally it won't launch either, just going to a black screen when I load the disc. Bethesda are releasing a patch for all 3 systems around the end of the month although I'm probably not gonna bother playing until then. Edited by progkidjoel - November 18 2011 at 23:31 |

Damn having that many problems?
I got worried, for a bit it was getting choppy but hasn't appeared since. Sorry to hear man Skyrim is pretty much Oblivion but better in every way And yes I hear your sister is amazing HEY OH I am thinking about getting Uncharted 3 so I can have a nice straightforward, yet awesome, break from Skyrim |

-Inventory is a pain now that your load-lightening skills are ridiculously-high on trees (req. 75 points in heavy armor to eliminate encumbrance at all, weak and hard-to-find load alteration spells, no strength to buff carry weight).
-Shields are a win button. DW style is awful because you can't block at all. The game cries out for a block/counter mechanism for all weapons, but alas, nothing. -Combat is still meh. No impact to actions at all. Weird cutscene kills are annoying, especially when you get one-hit by an enemy's hammer while you're pretty far away (first thing I did in Riverwatch or whatever was start killing people, and one guy instagibbed me like that). -AI hasn't improved at all. I killed two Giants by standing on a rock 10 feet from their faces and pelting them with arrows. -Smithing and alchemy requires a lot of looting junk. The ores you mine get really heavy really fast. -Magic is redundant. For example, your novice-level destruction spells are all the same spell with slightly-different effects. -Favorites system is a pain in my ass. I hate pausing the game all the time to switch gear (and I switch between destruction, restoration, and weapons all the damn time). -The game doesn't look that great. Not shocking as it's made for 6-year-old hardware, but still. Bodies look decent, but faces could use a facelift (har har). Way too much shiny. 2xAA slices framerate from 50 to 10. I do not know why. -Sneaking, destruction, and armor are stupid-hard to level. Walking into a wall near an enemy gives you a level every 2 minutes or so, destruction takes a few kills with nothing but fire to get a level, and armor... well, barring that you use a shield, you'll just never level it. -Seriously, you can't just put the goddamn shrine of Talos on my map and you won't let me add it? Damn it all! -Really love the constellation system. Too bad they didn't fix the skill-leveling balance. Enchanting your way to level 100 is just silly. -Speaking of which, enchanting calls combination enchants individual enchants. WHY!? |
