I heard you need Steam to run it on PC though?  I don't just mean the Digital Download version either.

I don't like a game to be reliant on Steam.

No, Morrowind just had text...I can't think of any other game that had what he is describing, but Fable 2 at release was the last full retail game I played, so...

There was one that had line-drawings (including coloured sections) of many of the creatures you encounter in the game, on load screens.  Not Interactive or 3D though.  But they were a similar concept.

I think so. They have all gotten it from steam so I think that may be the only way to do it on PC.

My laptop is old, filled and I dont like playing games on PC really...so I'll be getting it on console anyway.
Most likely 360 because I've not touched it in forever.

edit: Also I dont know what Joel means exactly, but it sounds like Heavy Rain. Load screens had close up, and very amazing, shots of their faces that would look around and I think you had some real minor control of.

My mate's Steam account is screwed and he usually plays games offline and Steam somehow doesn't like that.  So I'll try and convince him to get the 360 Version.

Ah but Brian, if I was downloading it using Steam, that's not an issue but if I bought the game in a shop as a physical product and I was a n00b (like my mate) with PCs, then I'd be quite annoyed that you'd need Steam to run it.

It sounds like the load screens are better and more important than the game. LOL

But it shouldn't even be the case.  Game makers/suppliers shouldn't force something like Steam (which is hit and miss most of the time anyway!) on casual PC gamers who may not use the Internet much.  It's like the DRM thing again.

There should be a non-Steam version of the game.

Urgh.

Probs but this is kinda why I dont like PC gaming. Its always some sh*t (also needing to upgrade often) consoles are easier and I'm a lazy man so it makes sense where I need to go

I don't own a console.  There's far too few games I want to play on 360 or PS3 to warrant buying one.  Most games I like are available on PC.  I'm fine using Steam personally even if it is a really crappy piece of software.

My mate bought a Warhammer 40,000 game that required Steam.  He's never got on with Steam and it always seems to stop working or mess up for him.  Plus he uses a dongle like me and you'd think if a game came on CD, you shouldn't need to download anything else except for a patch.  Not the case for that particular game.  It's a hideous concept.

Someone in the UK was complaining about not being able to play Skyrim because Steam required the game to be unlocked by midnight and he'd got his copy early (a friend of mine got his early too; quite legitimately -- only on 360).

It's just silly.

Who cares whether you can play a game a day earlier or not?  It was a legitimate purchase too.  He had a right to play it!

Maybe IDK who cares, I was just dreading this time on PA because despite your intense hate of Oblivion you sure love talking about it, and despite the constant ignoring of it from me, joel, jon and probably others you still continue!

Could find a good game to play, or something else entirely lol

I was not talking about Skyrim so much as PC games on CD that require Steam to play them.  I find that intrusive.  Skyrim just happens to be the latest example of it.  It doesn't matter whether it's an amazing game (and I am certain it will be be better than Oblivion).  The whole Steam thing irks me.

And you say who cares?

I do.

I'm sure others do as well.

^Same thing happened with my friends who got the PC version of Skyrim; I was able to play as soon as I got home but Steam locked them until midnight.

Also, Three Dog's voice actor from Fallout 3 is back in Skyrim

Yep and even if you ignore my other Steam comments, just that part alone is annoying.

When you buy a game, you naturally want to play it as soon as possible (upon installation and after updates/patches).

It's just silly.

Ah well, us PC gamers have always been shafted since Consoles have become the norm.

I'm not particularly against Steam but I don't see why people think it's the second coming of Jesus. The sales are good but that's about it for me, and any DRM which has to run in the background loses big points.

Although the DRM may not be too bad for downloaded games, putting it on a disc is horrible.

I agree, Joel.

I'm not against Steam either.  I've had a few issues with it but that's mostly because of my crappy Internet connection.

However, my mate has had a lot of issues.  It didn't help that he forgot his log-in details and so couldn't play a game as he'd already registered it on that account (he had to get a new account).  He also uses a Dongle like I do and prefers to play games Offline.  He wants to just install a game and play it.  He has to look up his log-in and password details every time he wants to use Steam (which isn't very often and is probably why he forgets them).  Then when he does, some games just don't like to work in Offline mode.

He told me recently he has an offline-mode issue.  I keep meaning to take a look at it.  He's not computer techy.

Quite a few people aren't.

Joel, Steam isn't particularly memory hogging, so it running in the background isn't that much of an issue.  I am happy downloading games via Steam.  They have some excellent deals.  I just don't like the fact that many non-tech savvy people are forced to download a DRM system (and register and remember log-ins and passwords) just to play a game that is single-player and doesn't even really need an Internet Connection to run (you can live without updates and patches in many cases).

Anyhow, how's Skyrim going for you?  Still enjoying it?

You have no idea if these issues affect me or not.  Be quiet.

I hate playing games on PC. It seems like a terrible waste of time and money. It's because I am a perfectionist in that respect.

If I bought Skyrim for PC I'd naturally want to play it on the maximum settings (highest graphical settings on 1900 x 1200 setting with all that textural junk and super v-sync and 16x anti-aliasing and what-have-you). If I tried to do that, my excellent computer (costing me $1,700 three years ago - 4gb RAM, dual-core 2.5ghz processor, 300gb of hdd space) would never play it. I hate playing PC games because you have to keep shelling out insane amounts of money to keep up.If I pay nearly 2,000 dollars for something, I want that something to efficiently last me for at least a decade. There are decent cars I could buy for that much.

What's better? Paying $200 for an Xbox 360 to play any game you want on it for six or seven years or more, or paying $2,000 for a computer that will be out of date in a couple years, that probably won't play it on maximum settings anyway? I will always prefer console gaming simply because PC gaming seems to be a frustrating, bedraggled series of heartbreaks, broken promises, and lackluster gaming experiences. What am I supposed to do, starve my three-year-old son and don't buy him new clothes for half a year to afford a new one. f**k Microsoft and Dell and any computer company for assuming we're all rich c**ksuckers.

I'd rather stop gaming altogether than become a PC gamer, primarily. The only enjoyment I get from playing games on my computer is with older roms from the first playstation and before.
