Topic: Vampillia & Ruins in London, Oslo, Brussels Posted: November 03 2011 at 20:09
I guess Ruins is well known here; Vampillia is an awesome Japanese avantgarde projects that plays metal and post rock; we added the to PA recently. Highly recommended! I don't know the other two bands.
Japanese psychedelia meets British soundscapes. This is Vampillia's exclusive, first visit to the UK. Also performing are Ruins (Yoshida Tatsuya), as well as Liberez and local heroes Fighting Kites.
VAMPILLIA
Vampillia, the brutal orchestra, is an 8 piece band based in Osaka that will leave no one unaffected. Fresh from a collaboration with Attila Cizhar of Mayhem/Sunn 0))), they set out to tour Europe late 2011.
They hail from Osaka, Japan and are a brutal orchestra with three distinct vocalists backed by violins, piano, guitars, bass, turntables, Toyohito Yoshikawa (Boredoms) on drums as well as Tatsuya Yoshida (Acid Mothers Temple, Ruins, Zeni Geva, Samla Mammas Manna) and Kazuhisa Chikada (World’s End Girlfriend).
Vampillia, much like the Boredoms, confront rock, noise, modern composition, experimental music, noise and pop. The result is explosive psychedelic hardcore.
Their latest album, The Alchemic Heart was released by Important Records earlier this year. The album is an unusually beautiful, dark collaboration with Jarboe (Swans) and Merzbow. Planned for release soon is a new album, featuring the vocal talents of Tujiko Noriko.
Legendary RUINS was formed as a duo in 1985, but has since 2004 been a solo project of Tatsuya Yoshida - often billed as RUINS Alone.
Tatsuya Yoshida is one of the most innovative drummers/composers/improvisers of the Japanese avant-garde music scene. He has a unique, complicated and energetic sound - possible a mixture of psychedelic/progressive rock, hardcore and contemporary music.
Formed in 2003, Liberez released their first LP, "The Letter", on Alter in september 2011. It is a phenomenal record of deconstructed improvisations that form a semi-industrial landscape of sound - where repeated phrases create a dark and dense atmosphere foreboding disaster.
Liberez are a group from Southend which was born out of a long running collaboration between John Hannon and Pete Wilkins, both former members of Woe. Recently, the group was completed with the addition of multi-instrumentalist Tom James Scott (Bo Weavil) and vocalist Nina Bosnic.
Fighting Kites play experimental instrumental pop music. Their looping, layered, soulful art-rock waltzes have won them spots on bills with the likes of Male Bonding, Nisennenmondai, Shield Your Eyes, Benjamin Shaw and Nitkowski. The quartet recently released a split LP with Broken Shoulder (the solo project of Fighting Kites member Neil Debnam) on Audio Antihero.
