Sorry to be talking so much but Bamsen i saw your review of HARMONIA's live album and enjoyed it so re-visited their "Deluxe" album which was their final studio record and had to bump it up to 4 stars.I can hear why this is listed under Electronic but it's cool to have Mani from GURU GURU play on some tracks. That's a fun album to listen to.The two CLUSTER dudes plus Rother from NEU! make such a good team.

I really love those 3 albums - I count in the live album I reviewed as well, because it´s one of those gems with all new material, - and I agree - they are quite the team ![]() I find it particularly funny, that a thing like the rhythm box, which back then was very one-dimensional and well what we today´d call kitschy - work so well within the music. Just like Journey by Arthur Brown´s Kingdom Come actually. As a drummer though, I´m always delighted to hear Mani play as he is one of the most original sounding percussionists ![]() BTW I´ve been listening to the live Gila record John ![]() |

Just a Poke is a wonderful record John
![]() I was listening to Algarnes Tradgaard earlier and they truly sound like a Swedish Krautrock-band to me! I love both their albums, and recently I´ve been getting more into the second one. Psychedelic synth folk meets Viking jamming on mushrooms. I love it like I love a good stew of labrador retrievers. |

Funny you mention Algarnes Tradgaard because tonight i'm looking at my collection and noticed i had one of their albums in my Rio/Avant/Zeuhl section and the other i the Psychedelic/Krautrock section.I'm sitting there thinking to myself "Okay where is the right spot for this band?" I ended up putting them in the latter section and your comments just cemented that for me.Listening to a band called LIGHTSHINE right now.Very melodic and drifting music.Love this stuff.

I gather you´ve been posting reviews for MMA? My metal side has been dormant for a looong time, and I find that a bit silly, seeing as I grew up listening to Cannibal Corpse, Obituary and Napalm Death. The only metal I listen to now are the likes of Neurosis and ZU. Anyway good to see you here Karl - I hope you and your metal loving offspring are doing well ![]() I just finished Vive la Trance by ADll, and I know I´ve said it before, but man this album is so freakin great!!! Maybe just as brilliant as Wolf City, and that is saying something. Just listen to this short track, and tell me that they lost their cosmic groove - diminished their wild past - went commercial ![]() I just can´t get this little piece of music out of my head - sheer brilliance!!: |

Thanks for the Vive La Trance tune David,a very relaxing track.I still haven't heard that album but i feel that Carnival In Babylon is as good as Wolf City to which most will disagreee.

Say, does anyone know of other albums comparable to In Den Garten Pharaos? I've been really into dark, droning, pulsing kraut like that lately.
I haven't found anything else I consider on the same level as Pharaos Although, one thing I've just discovered that is very cool is Mittelwinternacht '71 ![]() Edited by Triceratopsoil - November 06 2011 at 23:41 |

Errmm - that Popol Vuh album is really one of a kind, and that is probably what makes it so special, but Affenstunde - their debut comes pretty close to it soundwise. Other Krautrock acts that fiddle within droning textures and the surreal are these: Between: Tony Conrad(here with Faust): Cluster: Lard Free: Deuter: And if you want something that´s droning, distorted and evil - mixed up with a healthy dose of black metal, then maybe Aluk Todolo is right up your alley. Not for everyone though: Edited by Guldbamsen - November 07 2011 at 17:50 |

^Yeah I could have gone with Kluster as well, but I think that first
Cluster is just as dark. They clearly changed their sound with
subsequent releases, but 71 is an ominous sounding beast.
Nice track though Salty - it´s been a while since I´ve listened to it, thanks. Again, if he wants anything close to Gärten Pharaohs - the closest will probably be Affenstunde. |

I still need to get the Kluster stuff...I see that there's now a release which contains the first two and Eruption, together for about $25...much better than the limited edition versions of the first two which are going for $35 each.

I have Vuh's first 5 albums + Nosferatu already. Starting to listen to some of those other samples now. Also, I notice Mittelwinternacht isn't on PA, although that's probably progressive electronic. I'll upload a track to youtube and write up a thread later |
